Ok, so maybe you don’t actually need 10 pairs of skinny jeans in your life. But it’s always good to have options, right?
And as luck would have it, I’ve rounded up plenty of options for you.
10 pairs of skinny jeans you need in your life
I’m a big fan of skinny jeans, although that wasn’t always the case.
When I was roughly 25 kilos heavier I gravitated towards baggy boyfriend styles, mainly because
- that’s all that was really available (hooray for the dramatic improvement in plus size fashion options over the last couple of years!)
- it’s what I felt comfortable in (note to self, feeling comfortable doesn’t always equal feeling good)
It was when I’d lost around 10 kilos that I tried on a pair of skinny jeans for the first time.
I’m not going to talk this situation up – they were hard to get into, they felt like they’d been sprayed on and the muffin top situation was less than ideal.
BUT. Once my heart rate had returned to normal from the intense cardio workout of actually getting the skinny jeans, I looked in the mirror and kind of liked what I saw.
Actually, I LOVED what I saw.
Not in a ‘OMG would you check me out’ kind of way. But in a ‘OMG where have these jeans been all my life?!’ kind of way.
Skinny jeans are SUPER flattering. They have some sort of magical mysterious denim super power that works to make you look slimmer and more streamlined than you actually are.
Not that there’s anything wrong with how you look right now – truly, there isn’t – but if the idea of looking slightly slimmer without having to visit a gym sounds appealing, the skinny jean is the denim for you.

my top 5 skinny jean tips
1. Try a pair on
Don’t be like me and wait until you’ve lost a few kilos before adding skinny jeans to your life. Try a pair on today – I promise you will LOVE them!
2. It’s all about balance
If the thought of wearing spray on denim worries you, it’s ok. Simply balance out the snug fitting lower half with a looser top half and you’re good to go.

3. Embrace the stretch
If I was Oprah – can we all just take a minute to imagine that? YOU GET A CAR! NO YOU GET A CAR! YOU ALL GET A CAR!! – Sorry, got slightly side tracked. Where was I? Oh that’s right.
If I was Oprah (ha!) denim with stretch would absolutely be on my yearly list of favourite things.
It’s comfortable AND practical – you can actually do things like bend over and pick things up without injuring an internal organ while wearing denim with stretch.
4. Size down
I wasn’t kidding when I said skinny jeans have magical super powers. Sizing down is often required, particularly if you choose a pair of skinnies that have a fair bit of stretch.
If they feel even the tiniest bit lose when you first try them on, grab the next size down. I promise they will look and feel so much better.
Suzanne Grae Knitted Denim Jegging, size M – should’ve sized down! Other pieces also available from Suzanne Grae*
5. Have fun
There are so many things in life that we have to take seriously, a pair of jeans really shouldn’t be one of them.
Have fun trying new styles on. You never know, that one style you thought you’d never wear might just be the pair for you.
Are there are a pair of skinny jeans in your life? Will you be trying a pair on this season?
