Welcome to another edition of What’s Going Down In Retail Town. This week we’re going to chat about one of my favourite things to go shopping for, beauty items.
They’re one of my favourite things to add to my shopping list because a) you don’t have to try them on (no worrying about things not fitting, so that’s a bonus!) and b) they’re a nice little treat you can spoil yourself with every now and again.
So today I’m sharing with you my 5 beauty must haves for the warmer months ahead. Are you ready to go shopping with me? Great! Let’s go.
5 Beauty Must Haves
1. A Good Nude Lipstick
Now I must admit that I’m more of a lip gloss lover than a lipstick wearer, but this gorgeous new Rimmel Lasting Finish by Kate Nude Collection* might just have me converted.
With 5 nude tones ranging from quite pale (#40) to a dark (#48), there is definitely a nude tone to suit all skin tones. There’s also a very clever transparent lipliner, which works with any of the lipstick shades.
I’ve given all 5 lipsticks a try and I love all of them, with the exception of #48 (it’s too dark for my pale skin tone) but #42 is probably my fave:
The Lasting Finish By Kate Nude Collection retails for $12.95 each (bargain!) and are available from Priceline, Target, Big W etc.
2. A Decent Cleansing Regime
If there’s one thing I’m really pedantic about, it’s cleansing my skin. If I could afford it, I’d have facials on a regular basis but sadly that’s not an option. However, this clever little gadget from Remington is the next best thing.
It’s a state of the art, electronic facial cleansing brush that promises to clean your face 10 times more effectively than cleansing the old-fashioned way (you know, throwing some cleanser on your hands and rubbing it on your face before washing it off with some warm water.)
While I can’t scientifically prove from my ensuite testing if that claim is correct or not, I can tell you that it has left my skin feeling beautifully soft and VERY clean after each use.
Because no two skin types are the same, the Remington Revitalise Facial Cleansing Brush* comes with 3 different brush heads (normal for an everyday deep cleanse, sensitive for a gentle daily cleanse and massage to revitalise dull and tired skin) as well as a charger and a beauty bag to store everything in.
Apart from the fact that the lightweight, slimline design makes it really easy to hold and use, I love that it’s the perfect sized cleansing brush for traveling too.
To use, you simply dampen the brush with water, apply a small amount of cleanser to the brush, select the speed (there are 3 speeds to choose from) and gently glide the brush over your skin in circular motions. The brush works on a one minute timer, with gentle pulses every 20 seconds. When you feel a pulse you just move onto another part of your face until you’re done. Too easy!
The Remington Revitalise Facial Cleansing Brush retails for $99.95 as is available from all leading electrical retailers.
3. A Good Sunscreen For Your Face
Daily sunscreen application is essential in Australia, where the sun beats down hard on us particularly during Spring and Summer. While you can use a regular sunscreen on your face, I prefer to use one that’s made for the face because, well, I’m fussy like that!
This one I purchased from Jurlique is my favourite as it’s lightweight yet gives great coverage, smells amazing (important) and has a SPF40 rating (nice and high, just how we like it).
Jurlique Sun Specialist SPF40 High Protection Cream retails for $50 and was a recent winner of the ELLE International Beauty Award for Best Suncare in 2015.
4. A Primer For Under Your Foundation
If you’ve never used a primer before, I highly recommend giving it a go. There are tons on the market to choose from, so have a play around and find one you like. My favourite is the Napoleon Perdis Auto Pilot Pre-Foundation Skin Primer.
If you’re not sure what I’m banging on about, a primer is applied to the skin before you put foundation on. It helps to keep your skin hydrated, creates a lovely velvety-base for the foundation that’s about to be applied and keeps your makeup in place for longer.
As Napoleon Perdis himself says, “Not to Prime is a Crime!” so get onto it ladies. You’ll be glad you did!
Napoleon Perdis Auto Pilot retails for $59
5. A Lightweight Concealer
During the warmer months I tend to pull back a bit of on the makeup, because it pretty much just slides off my face in the heat. A good primer, loose powder and concealer are my go-to items and Benefit’s Fake Up is my concealer of choice.
It’s hydrating, hides those pesky dark circles that refuse to leave the building and magically diffuses fine lines that seem to appear whenever a Valencia filter isn’t available.
Benefit Fake Up retails for $37
And there we have it. My 5 beauty must haves for Spring!
