I don’t know about you but I love Christmas. Decorating the tree, wrapping presents and watching the kids get caught up in the magic that is Christmas makes it my favourite time of year.
Sadly, for a variety of reasons, Christmas isn’t a magical time for everyone. But there are ways we can help. Here are 5 easy ways to give back this Christmas.
Read the list and consider giving back to someone less fortunate this festive season. It’s a kind approach to life that never goes out of style.
5 Easy Ways To Give Back This Christmas
1. Donate a gift to the disadvantaged.
Consider adding an extra gift to your list this year and popping it under the tree at your local Kmart or Target store:
Kmart Wishing Tree Appeal (Appeal partners are The Salvation Army and Mission Australia)
Target & UnitingCare Christmas Appeal
The Smith Family also run a Toy & Book Appeal every Christmas. There are a number of ways to donate or become involved: The Smith Family Toy & Book Appeal
2. Buy Christmas Cards that support a charity.
I picked these cards up at my local Myer store. There were dozens of gorgeous designs to choose from, each aligned with their own charity.
3. Deliver baked goods to a friend or neighbour in need.
Make them yourself or grab something from your local bakery. Either way, if you have a friend/neighbour who might be unwell, facing Christmas without a loved one or going through a bit of a rough patch they will really appreciate your thoughtfulness.
If you’re after an easy recipe, these Mini Christmas Cakes are the perfect size for one or two people to enjoy.
4. Give gifts that give back.
Oxfam Australia stock a fantastic range of ethically sourced, handmade products from homewares through to clothing and accessories. I’ve chosen 3 items* from the Oxfam Ethical Christmas Gift Guide fashion range to give this Christmas.
Oxfam Shops have helped deliver employment, income and social support to more than 50,000 people living in poverty around the world. Consider shopping ethically with Oxfam this Christmas and know you’ll be contributing to the global fight against poverty.
5. Help your local community.
There are a number of ways you can help out in your local community during the festive season. Visit your local council website or Volunteering Australia to find out how you can help others this Christmas.
