It’s a long weekend here in Queensland this weekend (is it where you are too?), the sun is shining and the days are warming up nicely.
The next three days shouldn’t be wasted, so I’ve come up with 5 Fun Things To Do This Weekend that will get you outside, won’t break the bank and might even keep the kids entertained too! (Except for suggestion number 2. That’s not really ideal for children. Perhaps make them a milkshake instead)
1. Go For A Bike Ride
When was the last time you felt the wind in your hair and the breeze in your face?
If you’re a fitness freak don’t answer that because it was probably this morning, but if like me, the answer goes something along the lines of, “Um…” then this weekend is the time to jump on a bike and go for a ride!
Just watch out for snakes while you’re channelling your inner Tour De France and you’ll be fine.
2. Make A French Martini
Ok, so you might be wondering how making a cocktail will get you outside, but I think we all know by now how I feel about the great outdoors:
And let’s face it, who doesn’t love a fancy cocktail from time to time?
A French Martini happens to be my favourite and if you’d like to become your favourite too, you can learn how to make it in this episode of Cooking With Kirsten:

3. Do A Bit Of Online Shopping
It’s no secret that I love to shop and online shopping is one of my favourite pastimes. You can even do it while at the park with your kids, as long as you’ve got a phone with a decent data plan and your credit card isn’t too far away…or so I’ve heard.
A couple of weeks ago I snapped up two of these cold shoulder tops from Katies* (one striped, one black) for $29.95 each. They’re the perfect t-shirt if tuck shop arms are a bit of an issue and the light weight fabric makes it an easy to wear option as the weather heats up.
I’m wearing a Medium in the top, which I’ve teamed with a pair of super comfy and a little bit stretchy Zip Hem Ankle Grazer Jeans* (also purchased from Katies) now on sale for $29 (bargain!)
My shoes are Feature Film by Clarks (gifted) and they’re the perfect mix of comfort and style for this busy mum who hardly ever wears heels!

4. Watch A Grand Final
This suggestion comes from Scott/Guns, obviously. Apparently footy loving fans are spoilt for choice this weekend with the AFL and NRL Grand Finals being played on Saturday and Sunday afternoons respectively.
I know it will shock you when I say that I don’t follow either of those codes, but Scott is a mad keen Broncos supporter so it’s safe to say that on Sunday afternoon it’ll be time to fire up the barbie, throw a few meat pies in the oven and whack some ice in the esky because no Grand Final would be complete without a burnt sausage, a meat pie drowning in tomato sauce and several ice-cold beers! Let’s go Broncos! (Really hope I’ve said that correctly.)
5. Go On A Picnic
Naturally you’re going to need to pack some sweet treats and I reckon you can’t go past these Cookie Dough Brownies.
You might also want to pack a footy, maybe a cricket set and possibly even a grip ball set to keep the kids (and adults!) entertained. Don’t forget the picnic blanket, a couple of chairs and enough food and wine to feed a small army and you’ll have a cracker of a day out!
What are you getting up to this weekend? Will you be watching the footy? Going on a picnic? Or have you got something else planned? I’d love to know!
