If there’s one thing I am total crap at, it’s maths. But discussing that would make for a VERY boring blog post. So instead, let’s have a quick chat about the other thing I’m a bit useless at: DIY projects.
I mean, I can make you a French Martini with a side serve of abs (not mine, obvs) and declutter your wardrobe like a boss but ask me to whip up a piece of furniture using nothing but a drill and few pieces of 4×2 and let’s just say, we’d all be better off if we poured a glass of wine and outsourced that request instead!
However, not everybody is DIY challenged like yours truly. I mean just have a look at what blog reader Shauna has casually whipped up IN HER SPARE TIME….
Isn’t that stunning?! Shauna made the entire dining room table herself (how Shauna, how?!) and told me via Facebook that there were a few little holes in the timber, so she filled them with ‘secrets’ encased in resin.
What a beautiful table Shauna has created for the whole family to dine at, wouldn’t you agree? (Chairs were purchased from Super Amart)
Meanwhile, you know how there’s always one member of the family who is a total over achiever and somehow manages to get ALL of the creative genes AND is also a really nice person? Right, well in my family that person happens to be my cousin, Emma.
Never mind decluttering wardrobes like a boss, Em’s all about working drop saws and drill bits (whatever they are….I had to ask Guns for those two terms) like a boss and just quietly, I reckon she’s doing an awesome job!
And finally, there’s my lovely friend Sharon, or baysidecottage as she’s known on Instagram. Sharon is the Queen of the Before and After DIY Project and her latest project is no exception.
Here’s the before. A set of crusty looking drawers she scored for free from a neighbour.
And after Sharon worked her magic on those drawers, here’s what they look like!
I mean, really. How gorgeous do they look now?!
Here’s what Sharon did to achieve such a stunning makeover of the drawers:
- Removed the existing handles and puttied up the holes.
- Lightly sanded the putty back.
- Applied 3-4 coats of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Pure White.
- Lightly sanded back until smooth but distressed in some areas.
- Applied Annie Sloan Clear Wax and rubbed back to seal.
- Attached clear glass knobs which were an eBay bargain.
Excellent work Shauna, Emma and Sharon. Thanks so much for sharing your awesome DIY projects with us! You’ve inspired me to pour another glass of wine think about buying some paint. I’ll let you know how I go.
Do you love to DIY or prefer to pour a glass of wine? Or maybe you multi-task and do both?
