The school my kids go to has a lovely staff member there who is kept busy co-ordinating all sorts of things for all sorts of people. To celebrate World Teachers’ Day, he put a call out for parents to throw together some baked goods for a teacher or two, bring it into school and BAM! He had a surprise afternoon tea organised for all the teachers instead of their usual staff meeting. I know. So thoughtful.
Because I love it bake, make things look pretty and genuinely think that each and every teacher at the school is nothing short of amazing, I decided to offer my assistance by putting together a couple of afternoon tea gift packs.
Now before you freak out and think there’s no way you could do something like that (Um, of course you could. Have you met yourself? You’re amazing)/it’s completely OTT (it’s borderline in the OTT department, but that’s how I roll)/what’s wrong with just throwing things on a paper plate? (nothing at all, plenty of people did just that) I need to reassure you that it really is a very easy process and not exactly expensive either. Here’s how I do it at home and how you totally can too!
Step 1: I made Banana Bread, Chocolate Chip Brownies, and Savoury Muffins
Step 2: Once all the baked goods were completely cooled, I cut the banana bread and the brownies into slices and then placed them carefully into long cellophane bags that I had purchased ages ago at a craft store (10 bags for $2) I then sealed the bags with ribbon that was left over from Sophie’s Saturday Brunch.
Step 3: I lined a large disposable roasting tray ($4 for a pack of 4 from my local supermarket) with a spotty serviette that was also leftover from Sophie’s Saturday Brunch
Step 4: I placed the baked goods in the tray
Step 5: I wrapped each tray with clear cellophane and finished it off with neon ribbon and a handmade thank you note…
Too easy! The next day, I took the afternoon tea gift packs into the kitchen at school and was amazed to see so many beautiful packages/trays/plates in the room, each one bursting with various baked goods for each and every teacher. It was really lovely to be a part of something so thoughtful and a very easy and cost effective way of saying ‘Thank you’!
