So here’s a fun fact you might not know about me. I have no problem writing words on the internet for thousands of people I don’t know to read. Honestly, the words just roll off my fingertips and onto the screen with no problem at all.
But when it comes to being interviewed or talking about myself, I struggle.
Which is ironic, given that I love a good chat. I mean ‘tends to talk too much in class’ is written in pretty much all of my school reports and I the phrase ‘she could talk underwater with a mouth full of marbles’ may have been thrown way on more than 474 occasions one occasion.
So when the good people at Brisbane News asked if I would like to be interviewed about Kirsten and co. and bettyquette (formerly Skin Boss), I was what Sophie calls ‘nervecited’. Nervous and excited.
Arrangements were made for a photo shoot at The Courier Mail. The deadline was tight – I had one day in between the phone call and the photo shoot to get organised.
Normally, this wouldn’t be a problem. Except it was January and I was in full school holiday mode. And I don’t mean I was sitting poolside sipping on some sort of coffee based cocktail situation while the kids yelled, “Watch this Mum!” for the 47th time.
By full school holiday mode I mean the work/life/mum’s taxi run juggle was real.
January generally means zero time for myself, which is something I’m ok with. It’s all part of life as a working mum. But when you’re asked to come in for a photo shoot and
- your hair appointment is long overdue,
- your nails are in dire need of a manicure that also involves some sort of industrial strength slime removal – seriously, how does that stuff get everywhere? and
- you have no idea what you’re going to wear
you leap into action!
Wearing, Cove Collection Off The Shoulder Dress (size M) from Urban Outlet (kindly gifted) | block heels from Sunshine Coast based Zoe Kratzmann Footwear (not current but similar styles usually available each season)
Big love to two awesome local businesses who were so helpful with my last minute, slightly panicked request for an appointment!
- The team at Rust Hairdressing who squeezed me in between clients and ran a toner through my hair.
- Renae at Urban Outlet who kept her store open for me and knew exactly what I should wear.
The photo shoot flew by – it was a lot of fun! – and the interview took place over the phone.
That was about a month ago and this week, on Wednesday 21 February 2018, this happened.
Huge thanks to the team at Brisbane News – Amanda Horswill, Leesa Maher and Andrea Ripper – for the article. It has definitely been a ‘pinch me’ moment to see our story printed in such a well-respected publication.
And of course massive thanks to you – the gorgeous Kirsten and co. community. Your support of this blog, bettyquette and my health journey in general has been amazing. Thank you for being here. You really are some kind of wonderful x
