Yesterday I spent a good chunk of my day discussing my diet with a specialist.
My neuro told me to go and see him because he believes that losing weight is the key to managing IIH and getting off the awful drug that is known as Diamox.
Before I went to see the specialist, I had to fill out a medical form which made me a bit stabby.
When we reached Question 8 and I was asked, “Are you on a diet?” I trotted out my standard answer: “I’ve been on a diet since 1986.”
The next question, “And do you feel good when you exercise?” was met with the reply, “Um, no. I’m missing that gene.”
And then, this question was asked – “how would you feel about cutting back on your calories to 1,000 a day?”
Um…I’m going to go with, not great. But thanks for asking.
Lots of advice and a very sensible approach to this whole ‘you must lose weight in order to get off the diamox’ thing that all the doctors keep telling me was given. I mean, I get it. Really, I do!
And trust me, there’s nothing quite like being told you could lose your sight to keep your mouth firmly shut, buy yourself a fit bit and start pounding the pavement for an hour a day in an effort to shed the kilos!
As I told the doctor today, I’ve always been a yo-yo dieter with a side serve of exercise avoider thrown in for good measure. I mean I’ve got the term ‘exercise avoider’ written on my business cards for gods sake! He actually laughed at that one and told me that while diets don’t necessarily work, a healthy lifestyle does.
So that’s what I’m embracing. A healthy lifestyle, with lots of fresh air, fresh fruit and vegetables and maybe even a yoga class. But I draw the line at hot yoga. And I can’t do kale, quinoa or anything remotely raw. Which reminds me of a joke Bailey told me on the way home from school today.
What’s the best way to serve coleslaw?
In a rubbish bin.
It would seem a very dry sense of humour might be genetic.
Are you on a diet? Want to share which one? Or are you more of a healthy lifestyle kind of girl/guy? Either way, I’d love to know!
