A couple of weeks ago, Nicole from the blog The Builder’s Wife asked me to be a part of her regular series called My Favourite Space. You can read the post here. We’ll wait for you to come back. Promise!
Anyway, I told Nicole that my favourite space was our dining room and today I thought I’d share that space with you.
Because our living space downstairs is very much open plan, it’s more of a dining area than a dining room. The kitchen overlooks the dining room table and the lounge room, which then opens up to our outdoor area.
When we bought the house, there weren’t any curtains or blinds on the windows downstairs and the house behind us is quite close, so we needed something on the windows for a bit of privacy. White shutters were the perfect solution!
I picked up the table and chairs from Early Settler Furniture back in January when they were on sale and although they took 6 weeks to arrive, they were definitely worth the wait.
The shelves on the wall are from IKEA (Ribba range, $14.99 each) which you might remember seeing in my study last month. I love the idea of using selling to display photos, rather than attaching frames to the wall because it means I can change photos and prints around on a regular basis.
The kitchen is to the right of the pic above and the living area is to the left. The wall that has the TV on it was a weird shade of grey when we moved in but Scott kindly painted it out for me and now it’s a lovely shade of Subtle Blue.
When we first moved in I wasn’t a fan of the stacker stone or the glass in the staircase at all and wanted to rip the whole thing out, but everyone tells me it looks lovely and that I’d be mad to change it, so it looks like it’ll be staying put after all!
And that’s how we decorated the dining room. We’ve still got to get some sheer curtains for the windows in the living area and there’s a huge amount of work to be done outside, but I’ll leave that last part to Scott. I know you’ll find this hard to believe, but manual labour isn’t really my thing! Unless it involves pouring wine. Then I’m all over it.
Oh, that reminds me. Last week I picked up a tea trolley from my local antique shop and have sort of made it into a bar cart, which is now sitting to the right of the dining room table and chairs. Would you like to see a before and after shot of that anytime soon?
What do you think of the term Dining Room? It sounds a bit old school doesn’t it?!
