So remember how I went to the Annie Sloan Chalk Paint cocktail party at Problogger last week? Well we were very generously given a goodie bag at the end of the night filled with a brush, two different coloured pots of paint and a tin of wax. I scored Antipodes Green and Cream in my goodie bag and on Wednesday I decided to give the green chalk paint a whirl!
Now I should start by saying that I’m not really into colour when it comes to decorating our home. Neutrals are definitely my friend, but in the interest of getting outside of my comfort zone, embracing my inner Tonia Todman AND putting the Annie Sloan chalk paint to the test, I decided to go all in with the Antipodes Green and paint a timber box I had sitting in a cupboard. Here’s what it looked like before:
We were told by the lovely Annie Sloan representative that the paint required no prep work and the best way to apply it is to basically slap it on, wait for it to become touch dry and then re-apply another coat. So that’s what I did! Here’s what the box looked like after one coat of Annie Sloan chalk paint…
And after two coats, it was pretty much done!
I waited patiently for the two coats to dry, which didn’t take long at all, before lightly coating the entire box with the soft wax. The end result is VERY green, which apparently is VERY 2014!
I like the end result, but I’m not madly in love with it, which isn’t an Annie Sloan Chalk Paint issue, but rather a ‘I really need to embrace colour’ issue! I think I’ll probably roughen the box up a bit with some sandpaper and give it another coat of wax. That should result in a slightly more industrial look.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to track down a raffia hat making kit and duck stencil set (thanks to Facebook followers Chelsea and Rachel for those Tonia Todman inspired comments!)
Have you ever used Annie Sloan Chalk Paint? Do you think I should roughen the box up a bit or leave it as it is?
