We have this thing that we do as a family each night at the dinner table, where we ask each other what was the best and worst parts of our day. It’s a great way to kick start a conversation with the kids and learn a little bit more about their day at school.
We kept this ritual up while we were away on holiday recently, but on the last day we decided to ask each other what our favourite memory of the trip was and I thought I’d share them with you.
All of the images in this post were taken on an Olympus OM-D E-M10, which the good people at Olympus have kindly let me borrow for the next couple of months as part of the Voices of 2014 My Family Lens challenge. I’m very grateful to have been able to take the camera on our family holiday and this is the first of three blog posts I’ll be submitting as part of the My Family Lens challenge.
So here we go with Team Smith’s Top 3 Memories from our trip to the USA. Enjoy ๐
Bailey’s Top 3 Memories:
“Walking into Disneyland was pretty cool. There were people everywhere and I loved seeing all the buildings.”
“I loved the whole Cars Land area at California Adventure Park. It was awesome and looked just like the movie.”
“Going back to Disneyland at night and watching the fireworks was an amazing memory.”
I took the following video of the fireworks on the camera, using the Movie function. It was really easy to use and a great way to capture an amazing memory!
Sophie’s Top 3 Memories:
“I loved going on the Teacups ride! They went so quickly and I loved spinning around and around!”
“I loved wearing Minnie Mouse ears with you.”
The original photo (above) was taken by Scott and shot on AUTO. Once we were back at the hotel, I imported the photo from the camera to my iPhone, using the camera’s inbuilt wifi function. I then used the Olympus Share App, which I had downloaded to my phone, to edit the image. I ran the photo through a pin hole filter and the image below was the end result, which I then uploaded directly to Instagram and Facebook!
“But my favourite memory from the whole holiday was all four of us spending time together and having lots of fun with Daddy.”
Scott’s Top 3 Memories:
“Definitely the food! It’s safe to say I ate my way around LA and I think I’ll miss Churros the most.”
“Going on the rides with the kids was a lot of fun, especially the Buzz Lightyear ride. Please let your readers know that I scored over 150,000 points on that ride which officially makes me a Space Scout.” Well ok then. I’ll be sure to let everybody know that important detail!
“I loved being on holidays and being able to hang out with the family for two weeks. It’s not something I get to do very often, so it’s definitely a top 3 memory for me!”
My Top 3 Memories:
“I loved heading back to Disneyland at night. The atmosphere was incredible.”
“Riding the teacups at close to midnight was a definite highlight!”
The original photo (above) was taken using the Night Portrait Scene. I then transferred it to my phone using the inbuilt wi-fi function and ran it though the Gentle Sepia filter….
“But I think my favourite memory was watching the kids take everything in. Seeing the sights through their eyes made the family holiday one I will never forget.”
It really was such a wonderful family holiday and I’m very grateful to have been able to use the Olympus OM-D E-M10 to capture such beautiful memories. I love taking photos and do own a DSLR, which, now that I’ve got my hands on the OM-D E-M10, seems really bulky and heavy in comparison!
I absolutely loved the portability of the Olympus camera. It hung comfortably around my neck while we were seeing the sights and when I wasn’t using it, the camera fit perfectly in my handbag.
The inbuilt art filters and wi-fi connectivity were also fantastic features that allowed for instant sharing of our holiday snaps with family, friends and blog readers on Facebook and Instagram!
I loved sharing the images with you all and can’t thank Olympus and Kidspot enough for allowing me to be a part of the My Family Lens challenge.
And just between you and me, I reckon they’ll probably have to physically pry the camera from my hands when it comes time to give it back!
