If you’ve been reading here a while, you’ll remember the surprise One Direction party I threw for Sophie last year.
Finally, after months of waiting, we’re off to their Brisbane tomorrow night. I saw ‘we’ because after a fairly intense round of scissors, paper, rock between Scott and I to resolve the issue of who would take Sophie to the concert, I’m a little bit annoyed * pleased to report that it will be me who accompanies her.
* sport has never been my thing.
Soph’s beside herself at the thought of seeing One Direction live and it got me thinking about the first concert I ever went to…
Yep, it was those happy looking blokes, AKA Pseudo Echo, back in 1987. It was a big year of concerts in Christchurch that year (hello Ice House!) and both concerts were held at the Town Hall. Which also happened to be the venue for my end of school awards night, so clearly it was a huge stadium event probably the smallest venue those bands had ever played in.
If I remember correctly, I went to the Pseudo Echo concert with my friend, Maria, as her mum had bought her two tickets for her 14th birthday. I definitely remember feeling very on trend in my denim skirt with matching oversized denim jacket, pale peach shirt, white kung fu shoes (the 80’s equivalent of crocs) and hair big enough to require it’s own postcode.
Sadly I have no photos of that outfit as back in the 80’s film was VERY expensive and your parents pretty much only whipped out the camera for important life events such as christenings, weddings and 21st birthdays.
Surprisingly, attending a Pseudo Echo concert wasn’t considered a life event important enough to warrant a photo. I KNOW. So weird. I mean imagine living a life where you didn’t take 302 photos of yourself before you went anywhere?! Yep, the 80’s were a strange time.
Yesterday’s outfit post only required a solid 25 minutes of pre-event photo taking to get 3 good shots!
Also, while we’re talking all things photography, when we’ve got a bit more time, remind me to tell you about Pam’s absolutely woeful superior photo taking abilities. Let’s just say that if you’re after photos that never have anyone’s head in them and/or feature random shots of people’s feet then Pam’s the photographer for you!
But back to the concert situation. It’s been a while since I’ve seen a boy band in action, so I’m assuming I’ll need to pack ear plugs for tomorrow night’s big event and approximately $4,792 for a 1D t-shirt, two drinks and a couple of hot dogs. Is there anything else I’ll need?
