If you feel like you might’ve overdone things a little bit during the festive season, don’t worry. You’re not alone.
It’s perfectly normal to consume your body weight in chocolate, carbs and champers during the Summer months of December and January here in Australia!
It’s also perfectly normal put on clothes that aren’t loose-fitting kaftans at some point and mildly freak out by how tight they have become. Which, if you’re not careful, could put you into a dreadful downward spiral of *gasps* dieting, during a time when we all should be doing the exact opposite.
Because I like to be helpful, I’ve put together a little guide called Five Ways To Lose Weight Fast for you.
It probably would’ve been slightly more helpful to have thought of this guide BEFORE the festive season was upon us, but funny never gets old, so feel free to read it now and draw on these tips whenever a challenging event is coming up in your life.
For example, Easter (hello Lindt Chocolate!), your birthday (hello epic slabs of cake!) or Tuesday (I’m assuming at least one of you will be suffering from PMT. In which case, ignore this list and go your hardest with whatever it is you crave!)
Five Ways To Lose Weight Fast
1. Wind Your Scales Back
That’s right ladies and gentleman. Treat the festive season like it’s daylight savings and wind those scales back a good 5 kilos on December 1st.
That way, if you’re tempted to step on those pesky scales at any time over the Christmas/New Year period, you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the number you see in front of you.
This will result in a lovely flow on effect in that you won’t think twice when a glass of champers with a prawn cocktail chaser is thrust into your hand at any of the events and family get togethers you attend AND your husband/wife/partner/whoever is nearby won’t have to hear you utter the words, ‘Holy crap, that number can’t be right!’ for a solid 8 weeks.
2. Throw Your Scales Out
Australia Day (January 26) pretty much marks the end of the festive season here in Australia. That’s because the school year kicks off the next day, or close to it depending on what state you live in. Everybody is back at work and/or juggling the whole work, school run thing and the days of poolside cocktails and beachside bbqs are but a distant memory.
Until you try to put your favourite jeans on and then you’re reminded of just how many mango daiquiris and burnt sausages you may or may not have inhaled in the last 4-8 weeks.
SO. The day after Australia Day, don’t worry about winding those scales forward. Simply throw the silly things out.
Don’t make eye contact with them and don’t even THINK about standing on them. Nobody needs that sort of negativity in their life. Just pick them up and throw them in the bin!
3. Balance Is Key
For instance, when I was eating a handful of fresh raspberries the other day, they looked so sad and lonely sitting on one side of the plate. So I balanced them out with a caramel tart #problemsolved
4. Hit The Sales
You might think I’m joking whenever I say Shopping Is My Cardio, but honestly, shopping is one awesome workout and has got me through some brutal festive seasons in the past!
The trick is to not do any of your shopping online during the festive season. Unless of course you’ve set yourself a goal of having very slender fingers, in which case, fire up the lap top and get that credit card out because online shopping is the cardio for you!
But if you’re looking to strip off a bit of excess wine consumption that may have somehow landed around your middle, put on a pair of comfortable yet attractive shoes and hit the sales. All of that brisk walking around a mall combined with the heavy lifting of shopping bags will have you trimmed down in no time!
Don’t forget to make regular hydration stops (coffee and cake is a must – please refer to point number 3 for further clarification) and if your shopping bags get too heavy, simply take them to your car and head back inside for round two.
5. Detox With A Salad Or A Juice Cleanse
Obviously you’ll want to make the salad completely kale free, so my Tim Tam Salad would be perfect! You can find a step by step instructional video in this post: How To Make A Tim Tam Salad
If you’re wanting to quit kale but don’t know where to start, don’t panic. I’m here to help. There’s a very easy to follow three-step program in this post: How To Quit Kale
I’m not usually one to endorse juice cleanses, but then I remembered my love for Mojitos which are made up of limes, mint, soda water and just a teeny tiny bit of booze. If that’s not a juice cleanse, I don’t know what is!
You can begin your own juice cleanse by watching this Cooking With Kirsten episode: How To Make A Mojito
And that my friends, is how to lose weight fast. Sort of!
How did you go over the festive season? Were you on a juice cleanse or was balance more your thing?
