I don’t know about but I love nothing better than reading a good book. Here’s four that are on high bookshelf rotation at my place right now.
Four Books Worth A Read
1. Primary School Confidential by Mrs Woog
Hands up if there is a copy of this hilarious, no-holds-barred expose of all things classroom related at your place.
Written by Australia’s most popular personal blogger, Mrs Woog, Primary School Confidential is the ultimate trip down memory lane for those of us who grew up surrounded by Strawberry Shortcake dolls and swatch watches. (I don’t mean to brag but my miniature Strawberry Shortcake collection was extensive AND I’ve still got it in a box somewhere. I wonder if Lemon Meringue Pie’s plastic hair still smells as sweet as it did back in 1984?)
If you haven’t already, you can purchase your copy of PSC right here. Oh and make sure you have a look at page 18 – it’s where you’ll find my chapter ‘The Benefits Of A Station Wagon’. Corduroy bean bags, a Nun with an unfortunate surname and a school excursion feature heavily.
2. Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert
Got an idea bouncing around in that head of yours but too scared to do anything with it because what will people think?
Worried that living a creative life is just a pipe dream that you will never be able to fulfil?
Sick and tired of receiving yet another rejection email so let’s just call it quits now because who want to read your stories/buy your stuff/look at your artwork anyway?
I hear you Sister and so does Elizabeth Gilbert. So much so that she wrote a book just for you. It’s called Big Magic and if fear is holding you back from living the creative life you’ve been dreaming of, this book is worth a read.
Full of short personal stories that are scattered with gems of wisdom, Big Magic is nothing like Eat Pray Love and everything like a book creative types will devour in an afternoon.
3. Cooking For Busy Mums by Amanda Voisey
If you love Amanda’s blog or are in need of some quick and easy family friendly recipe ideas, you need this cook book in your life.
The pages of Cooking For Busy Mums are filled with delicious recipes for breakfast, lunch and dinner that will make feeding your family a whole lot easier. Amanda’s also included valuable information on nutrition for kids, how to cope with fussy eaters, how to save money at the supermarket and simple school lunch box ideas.
4. The Life-Changing Magic of Not Giving A F**k by Sarah Knight
Ok, so if dropping the f-bomb like it’s a comma offends you, this probably isn’t the self-help book for you.
However if you are in need a bit of non-nonsense guidance when it comes to knowing how to stop spending time you don’t have doing things your don’t want to do with people you don’t like, then this is the book for you.
Covering important topics such as:
- Why should I give a f**k?
- Who are these mythical people who don’t give a f**k? (spoiler alert: children, assholes and the Enlightened)
- Sorting your own things to give a f**k about into categories and my personal favourite,
- You wondered when we’d get to weddings, didn’t you?
The Life-Changing Magic of Not Giving A F**k is definitely worth a read for the overextended amongst us. And no, I’m not referring to a Pilates move when I use the word overextended!
