So I know this will shock you when I say this, but I haven’t been on a shopping bender in weeks. Maybe even months. Come to think of it, the last time I went a bit nuts with a credit card was way back in February when I hit up my home away from home (AKA Westfield Carindale) after slicing my finger so badly it required some fairly serious medical attention. I know. I am just as shocked by my recent lack of commitment to all things retail as you are.
Don’t get me wrong, I’ve definitely wanted to go shopping, it’s just that since I had a minor mid-life crisis, I have been so busy studying that I haven’t had the time to do anything else! However, I have made some rather impressive random purchases while doing the groceries, so welcome to this week’s Friday Five: Random Shopping Purchases Edition. Enjoy…
1. New Jeans From Katies
Ok, so two things.
First thing: I didn’t actually buy these from a supermarket, but I was on my way to the supermarket when a ‘40% off everything’ sign happened to catch my eye. I followed that sign and it led me to Katies, where I picked up a pair of these gorgeous Ultimate Slim Fit Seam Jean for the bargain price of 36 bucks. Now I know that leggings are definitely not pants, and let me tell you, that is a rule I’ve always adhered to, but these legging style jeans are like some sort of comfortable gift from the fashion gods. They’re stretchy, lightweight and super flattering and I feel you might need a pair in your wardrobe ASAP.
Second thing: Even though the resemblance is uncanny, that is most definitely not me in the photo above. I think it’s probably the shoes that give that one away.
2. Frosty Fruits
It’s no secret that I’ve been addicted to these tasty little morsels for years. There’s only 83 calories in one ice block, they’re 99% fat free and they cure pretty much anything from head colds to hangovers. Well ok, those last two points haven’t actually been scientifically tested, but if my extensive research (which involves flinging a box of Frosty Fruits into my shopping trolley once a week and inhaling them while sitting on a couch) is anything to go by, Frosty Fruits are a modern day Cure All.
3. The Bar Counter
These little bars of goodness popped up in the health food aisle of my local Coles supermarket a couple of weeks ago and they’ve been featured heavily in our pantry ever since. Get all the details of what’s in them on The Bar Counter website. Also, and I know this will surprise you, I’ve never done any hand modelling before.
4. Barilla Pasta
Barilla is a brand that I purchase on a regular basis, so when I was sent some of their products to try, I was all over it. Partly because we love a good Italian meal in this household but mainly because we’re not afraid of carbs. Or pasta sauce. So thank you Barilla. I’m looking forward to whipping up an Italian feast this weekend! Oh and while we’re talking all things pasta, does anyone want the recipe for my vegetable packed bolognese dish that the kids will actually eat? Happy to post it here next week if you’re interested.
5. Nespresso Pods
Now you can’t purchase Nespresso Pods at the supermarket, but you can order them online, which is something I promised myself I’d get better at doing this year. You see, I always leave my coffee pod ordering until I’m down to the last few pods. Which is a very silly approach and one that often results in me suffering severe caffeine withdrawals for approximately 3-5 business days after I finally get around to placing my order. But not anymore! Nope. This year, I am proud to say I have got my act together and now place my order when I’m onto my second last sleeve of pods. I know! I’m super organised AND pumped up on delicious full strength Nespresso coffee. It’s totally win win.
And there you have it. My top 5 Random Shopping Purchases for the week. For someone who has pretty much only done her shopping at the supermarket for the last few weeks, I reckon I’ve done alright!
