So this morning has been fun. If being struck down by a fairly violent tummy bug while assessing your daughter’s ‘missing’ earring is your idea of fun.
Turns out that Sophie’s earring wasn’t actually missing or lost at all. Rather it had somehow lodged itself inside the earlobe overnight, resulting in the front of the pierced ear completely closing over. Good times.
Now normally those sorts of medical emergencies would be left for me to deal with, but given that I was having a fairly significant emergency of my own, the missing earring was left to Scott to deal with. He sprung into action like a third year med student and after unsuccessfully attempting to remove the earring himself, whipped Sophie up to the doctors quicker than I could say, “Could somebody pass me a bucket.”
Regular readers will be familiar with Scott’s fairly week stomach when it comes to all things medical (please read this post if you’re not sure what I’m referring to. We’ll wait for you to come back) and normally I’d be worried about him witnessing the earring removal, but I was too busy looking for a packet of GastroStop to worry about any potential fainting episodes.
So long story short, a needle, a scalpel, a stitch and one very caring doctor worked their magic and removed the pesky earring from Soph’s mildly infected ear lobe.
I’m pleased to report that Scott didn’t faint, Sophie’s beside herself with excitement because she’s having a day off school and I’ve just inhaled a cup of coffee with a frosty fruit chaser, so I think that means I’m feeling much better too. Happy Days.
How’s your Tuesday going? Anything exciting to share?
