In our last house I decorated my home office in a hot pink and black colour scheme. You know, to keep it inline with the blog’s colour scheme (as you do!)
All the images of what it used to look like can be found in the Budget Friendly Home Office Storage Solutions post I wrote last year.
This time around, I’ve gone for a more subtle colour scheme of aqua, black and white, with LOTS of home office storage solutions:
I know it’s hard to tell from the photo (ha!) but I work best when everything around me is stored neatly. Making your own home office look organised takes no time at all to do and once completed, it’s a very functional work space. Here’s how I did it:
Kirsten and co’s Home Office Storage Solutions:
Solution #1: Invest in a decent storage unit
Mine’s from IKEA. It came in a flat pack, which Scott put together for me in no time at all. It’s a good size and fairly sturdy. If you’ve got small children at home, I’d recommend attaching it to the wall to prevent it from being pulled over.
Solution #2: Label Everything!
Labelling storage boxes makes it MUCH easier to find things in a hurry. Also think about what items you use on a daily/regular basis and make sure they’re easily accessible.
Solution #3: Fill Your Storage Unit With The Correct Sized Boxes
Using boxes that fit snugly into your storage unit will help keep everything looking streamlined and organised (nobody needs to know that you’ve literally thrown everything inside the boxes and if they opened them, they’d be met with a huge mess!)
Solution #4: Pick A Colour Scheme
and stick to it. You’ll notice all the boxes I’ve used are very neutral/monochrome (black and white), that way they won’t date and I can easily add and/or change the pops of colour with things I already have around the house.
Solution #4: Personalise It!
Photos, candles, photo albums, books, magazines etc can all be added to your storage unit, which helps make it feel less stark/work related and more homely.
