If you came along to the annual Kirsten and co fundraiser event Pop Fizz Chic earlier this year, you’ll probably recall me talking about how to find your style.
I describe my style as Smart Casual, but that tends to be viewed as a bit of an old school term.
Casual Chic is the current go to phrase that gets thrown around a bit to describe my style. Which, to be honest, always gives me a bit of a laugh.
I mean I’ve definitely got the casual bit sorted. But the chic part?
Let’s just say that my unique ability to trip over absolutely nothing and spill food down my front like a toddler is anything BUT chic.
Although just today I tripped over my own shoelace – not even kidding – so at least I’m making some progress.
If you’re wondering how to find your casual chic style, wonder no more.
I’ve got a few tips and tricks to share with you, that will have you rocking the casual chic look in no time. Let’s get started shall we?
your casual chic style guide – how to find your casual chic style
A basic casual chic wardrobe contains just that – basics.
When it comes to bottoms, mine are mainly of the denim variety. Yours could be black or navy depending on your daily work/life requirements.
I tend to keep tops either plain, striped or polka dot.
Jackets are always plain and in colours that can easily pair with any outfit.
White sneakers and tan boots are on high casual chic rotation.
My basic casual chic wardrobe looks like this:
jeans – skinny leg with plenty of stretch is my style of choice.
skirts – pencil skirt style works best for my shape.
shorts – just at the knee if they’re a fitted style, shorter if they’re a looser cut tends to be the best style for my 164cm frame.
t-shirt dress – long sleeve for winter, short sleeve for summer.
shirt dress – a classic that can be dressed up or down. I prefer one that ties around the waist, you might prefer a more straight through style.
maxi dress – I love to have a bit of fun with a maxi and usually go for a print.
t-shirts – a mix of long and short sleeves, plain, stripes, polka dots.
jumpers – thanks to the warm Brisbane climate, I only need a couple. I tend to stick to plain colours that will work with jackets and bottoms in my wardrobe.
jacket/blazer/biker jacket – I usually have a couple of classic styles + one fashion piece for the season. This season it’s been the biker jacket.
sneakers – white and comfortable
boots – tan, black and something fun. This season I went for blush pink.
statement necklace/earrings – while I don’t wear a lot of jewellery during the day, I do like to add a jewel or two when I go out. A long tassel necklace, something with a bit of bling or drop earrings are my go-to.
putting it together
Once you have your basics + a few fun pieces sorted, then the fun begins!
Everything tends to work together, so you can mix and match items without too much trouble.
In Winter, my casual chic uniform is generally jeans, a long-sleeved tee, a jacket and sneakers. I’ll throw a lightweight scarf in my handbag if I’m heading out – it doesn’t get very cold during the day in Queensland – and put it on if required.
In Summer, the jeans are swapped for shorts, the long-sleeved tee is replaced with a short-sleeved one and the jacket is not usually worn. I’ll still wear sneakers but more often than not, they’re replaced with sandals or wedges.
