Something I like to do over on the blog’s Facebook page is post a funny quote once a day. It’s usually something I’ve heard before or seen on Pinterest and I just tweak it a bit to sort of make it my own.
You can read all about that quote in the How To Declutter Your Wardrobe Like A Boss post!
How To Go Viral On Facebook:
A couple of weeks ago I put this quote up and what happened next still has me scratching my head in disbelief.
Yep, that little quote about throwing your chocolate into a bush went viral and is STILL being shared to this day!
Now for some people, reaching 42,588 Facebookers wouldn’t be considered going viral because that’s probably just Monday for them (half their luck!) but for me, it is huge.
To put things into perspective, my blog’s Facebook page has 1,857 likers. They’re all awesome people and it’s a great place for us to all hang out and have a chat, but typically my posts over there reach around 700-800 people.
So when that quote started being shared and liked and commented on at a rate that I couldn’t keep up with, I knew it was on it’s way to going viral. People started tagging their friends in on it and before I knew it, nearly 43,000 people had seen it!
Lessons Learned From Going Viral:
And what’s the biggest thing I learned about going viral on Facebook?
ALWAYS PUT YOUR WEBSITE ON YOUR MEMES!
I didn’t put www.kirstenandco.com on the bottom of the paleo one because it wasn’t my quote.
When I was creating it (I use an app called Rhonna Designs for the quotes I post on Facebook) I felt that if I put my web address on the bottom of it, I’d be claiming it as my own, so being the extremely polite and ridiculously ethical person that I am, I left it off.
Sure, if anyone shared the quote on their Facebook page it would show that it came from the Kirsten and co. Facebook page BUT you can choose to remove that feature if you want to AND anyone can save the image to their computer and use it on their own page (personal or business) without giving you any credit or thanks.
So, long story short, while the quote went viral I gained nothing from it other than the fun of watching it happen.
I didn’t pick up any new likers or score any new hits to the blog but I did have a really fun 48 hours checking the numbers as they kept rising at a rate I’ve never seen before (and probably won’t see again anytime soon!)
Have you had something go viral on Facebook? Or better yet, maybe a blog post? I’d love to know the details!
