How To Keep Your Off The Shoulder Dress In Place

During the recent Coffee With Kirsten charity event we held a Q&A session. One of the questions asked was, “How do you keep your off the shoulder dress in place?” 

It was an excellent question. The struggle to keep an off the shoulder dress or top in place is definitely real!

In just a few short months the off the shoulder look has come a long way.

There are now so many different styles to choose from. Elastic around the top is thicker and there are a variety of fabric options available.

Here are the answers I gave during the Q&A session, which might be helpful when you’re making your next off the shoulder purchase.

How to keep your off the shoulder dress in place

1. It’s all in the elastic

I’ve found there are two things to consider when it comes to the elastic in your off the shoulder top or dress.

1. Elastic around the top that is too tight can be the cause of your off the shoulder top or dress riding up constantly. Look for a style that has slightly looser elastic and your top/dress should stay in place.
2. Styles that feature thicker elastic tend to stay in place better than the styles that feature thin elastic.

The Savannah Dress in Black from Adrift* is a great example of an off the shoulder dress that features wider elastic.

The shirred elastic finish is lined with blanket stitching, giving it a comfortable loose fit that truly stays in place all day long.

2. Pull it down at the back

The gorgeous Renee from Renee Loves Frances taught me this clever trick. 

Her off the shoulder dresses feature the thicker, looser elastic – hooray for that!

When I was in store trying this one on, Renee told me that pulling it down gently at the back will keep the dress in place.

It was an excellent tip and one that definitely works!
