How to make a sponge cake from scratch. It’s easier than you think!
I’ve been making this sponge cake recipe for years. Despite it having a bit of a two step process, it really is quite easy to make and you can get as creative as you like with the fillings.
You can channel your inner Nanna and go old school with jam and cream in the middle. Finish with a quick dusting of icing sugar on top and afternoon tea is served!
Or you can please any teenagers in the house, replace the jam with nutella and their birthday cake is done!
Perhaps you just feel like cream and nothing else? That’s no problem either! Simply whip the cream and spread it on top. Delicious!
Or, if like me, you’re married to a man who is slightly addicted to sugar, you might like to add some icing sugar to the cream before you whip it and then add some melted chocolate on top of the cream once it’s been spread over the top of the sponge cake:
The end result is a delicious, light sponge cake smothered in sweet whipped cream and gooey melted chocolate that definitely won’t last long once it’s made!
