So a couple of weeks ago my cousin was over while I was whipping up the kids lunches. She saw what I was doing and said, “Um, is that how you make their lunch everyday?” To which I replied, “For Sophie, yes, but for Bailey, I just throw everything into his lunchbox because you know, he’s 12 and pretty much inhales his food in 5 minutes before launching into a solid half hour of handball with his mates.”
Now that reply of mine was met with my cousin telling me that how I made Sophie’s lunch was “so not normal” and that I “totally need to blog it because the people need to see it.” I’m still not 100% sure if she was taking the piss or not, but I did promise her I’d blog about it, so brace yourselves peeps, because here’s a little tutorial in how to pack a school lunch box!
Now I know at first glance it all looks ridiculously over the top, so let’s just take a moment to relax and realise that it’s just unwrapped food in reusable muffin liners which all sit happily in a good old Tupperware lunchbox! And here’s what food is in there most days:
1 // homemade mini quiche
2 // half a packet of rice wheels
3 // one packet of apricot bites
4 // watermelon
5 // yoghurt
6 // chocolate chip cornflake biscuits or some other baked treat
7 //a burrito filled with grated cheese and sliced into 3 pieces
Some days I also add a little note in the lunch box too, usually telling Sophie how much I love her (so far, ‘I love you more than ice-cream and cupcakes’ is her favourite) or reminding her of what time her singing lesson is etc. It’s only ever a few lines, quickly scribbled before I wipe down the bench, but she loves getting them and has kept every single one of them in a little box, which I reckon is a little bit cute. And sometimes, when I’m feeling particularly annoying/cheeky I whack a note in Bailey’s lunchbox too. Because we all know how much a 12 year old boy would just LOVE opening that in front of all of his mates ๐
Poor kids. They’ll probably both need intensive therapy when they’re older. Or maybe they’ll develop a love of lists, clipboards and hardcore organising. In which case, my work here is done!
