Tomorrow we’re off on a family holiday to Hawaii, where we’ve got two weeks of nothing but sunshine, sunsets and cocktails waiting for us. I KNOW. I’m over myself already too.
And to be honest, the title of this post is probably a little bit misleading because I’m not really going to tell you how to pack for a trip to Hawaii. Because, BORING. I mean, really. Who doesn’t know how to pack a suitcase?!
Don’t panic. I don’t BYO booze on overseas trips. That’s strictly a domestic travel only policy. The photo above was taken when I visited Mrs Woog and she took me for a quick tour of Wisteria Lane. You can read that post right here.
Although I will be honest and say that I did plan on writing a post on how to pack for a trip to Hawaii and did quite a bit of research into the subject, which of course involved nothing but looking at pictures of gorgeous skinny young things on Pinterest wearing short denim shorts paired with a white string bikini top and a floaty aqua kimono jacket, so that was inspiring depressing!
Then there were the images of ‘how to make 4 items of clothing magically become 187 different outfits’ which I’m presuming only works if a) you don’t spill anything on the one t-shirt you’re allowed to pack for your 35 day holiday and b) you don’t have tuckshop arms because according to every image I’ve seen on pinterest, sleeves on t-shirts aren’t actually a thing!
So, in the interest of keeping it real, here is what this 42 year old mother of two, who hasn’t slipped into a pair of short shorts since 1985 or worn a bikini EVER will be taking with her to Hawaii:
5 pairs of shorts (knee length)
5 t-shirts (which I will successfully manage to spill food and or drink down the front of every single one)
2 short sleeved shirts (which I probably won’t wear, but have panic packed just in case I need them)
2 pairs of togs (black one pieces)
2 knee length semi fitting kaftans (maxi length, flowing ones make me look like I’ve lost some sort of wrestling match with a roll of fabric at my local Spotlight store!)
1 black dress (for wearing out at night. Let’s hope I don’t spill anything on that because it’s got to last me ALL holiday!)
1 kimono jacket, pictured below (Pinterest will be so proud!)
Details of this outfit can be found here
1 hat
enough sunscreen to open my own sunscreen application booth on Waikiki beach
a good book
a pair of sunglasses
a pair of thongs for the beach, a pair of shoes for shopping/sightseeing, a pair of shoes for wearing out to dinner and a pair of sneakers that will stay in my suitcase for the entire 14 days that we’re away
the usual pjs, underwear, makeup, hair accessories etc etc and that’s pretty much it!
I’ll still be blogging while I’m away, although probably not everyday like I do at the moment. I’ll definitely be hanging out on Instagram and Facebook, so feel free to join me at either of those two places where I’ll be irritating everyone no end with photos of sunsets and cocktails!
What sort of a packer are you? A light one or a complete over packer? Do tell!
