If, like me, you haven’t thought much about Halloween this year, you might be interested in my last minute Halloween Party Decoration Ideas!
Here’s a table I put together for Halloween a couple of years ago, which, if I could be bothered, would probably take me all of 10 minutes to fling together this afternoon!
Kirsten’s Last Minute Halloween Party Decoration Ideas:
1. Pick a colour scheme.
I went with traditional black and orange but really, when it comes to Halloween, anything goes. Pick a colour scheme that you and/or the kids like and stick with it. That way the party/area you’re decorating will look well put together, even if it is thrown together at the last minute!
2. Whip up (or buy) a banner.
I made the Trick or Treat banner using a cricut machine, but it would be cheaper and easier to buy one from your local $2 shop. Find a place to put it, whack some blue tack on the back and BAM! Your Halloween decorations have begun!
3. Clear a small table and start flinging things on it.
I used the table in our hallway because it’s right by the front door which means I won’t have too far to reach whenever a trick or treater knocks on the door!
I purchased the plastic pumpkin bowl and spider rings from a local $2 shop, while the lollies came from the supermarket.
The polka dot covered boxes were leftover from another party, so I whacked skull stickers on the ends of them to give them a Halloween feel.
4. Put some lollies into bags and tie the bags up with ribbon.
Then you can just hand each kid a bag when they knock on your door. Although be prepared to wake up the next morning to your front yard covered in discarded ribbons and bags! So on second thoughts, maybe ditch that idea and just throw everything into a large bowl for the kids to help themselves to.
5. Throw a candle in there somewhere and light it when it gets dark.
This will make the table look all spooky (important for Halloween) and will also come in handy should an electrical storm hit and you find yourself without power. Say what you will about me, I’m a forward thinking planner.
6. Turn your front lights on (and off when you’ve had enough!)
When October 31st rocks around, don’t forget to turn your front lights on (especially if you live in Australia and NZ where Halloween isn’t celebrated by everyone) so the kids in your neighbourhood know you’re joining in with the trick or treating fun.
When you’ve had enough or if you don’t want to hand out lollies to excited children who timidly knock on your door while their parents hover protectively in the background, simply turn your lights off and the knocking will stop/won’t happen.
Do you celebrate Halloween at you place or give it a miss?
