I don’t know about you, but my kids aren’t huge lunch eaters at school (hand ball and some random game called Home 44 seem to take priority over eating!) so I try to fill their lunch boxes with healthy, tasty items that they can eat quickly before throwing their lunch box in their bag and heading off to play (Sophie) or hang out with their mates (Bailey).
I try to keep pre-packaged foods to a minimum and when I do include them, they’re almost always purchased from the health food aisle. Healtheries Rice Wheels and Potato Stix are thrown into my trolley on a regular basis, so when I was invited to take part in the Kidspot Voices of 2014 Healtheries #snackosphere Project, I was all over it!
Here’s what a typical lunch box looks like at our place. Please note I have presented my lunch box ideas in a fancy pants flat lay arrangement because after 3 terms of use, both lunch boxes look completely feral and need a wash on a ‘OMG disinfect me ASAP’ cycle urgently, which of course makes them completely unfit for photographing!
Let’s have a closer look at those lunch box ideas, shall we?
- Healtheries Rice Wheels, Cheese flavour. My two love these and have been munching on them during their lunch breaks for years! I love them because they’re made with no artificial colours, flavours, preservatives or added MSG and are easy to fling into the lunch boxes in the morning.
- Something home baked. This week it’s Butterscotch Biscuits.
- Ham and Egg Bread Cup, which Sophie and I made on the weekend.
- Some fruit. This week it’s apples and strawberries.
- A sandwich. Ham, Cheese and Lettuce is the current favourite. Because he is 13 and growing at a rate I can barely keep up with, Bailey gets two sandwiches in his lunch box.
- A little note for Sophie. She loves getting these in her lunch box each day and has them stored in a box in her room. Bailey on the other hand would be horrified if I put a note in his lunch box, which of course means that once or twice a year I make sure I slip one in there!
Every Wednesday afternoon Sophie has basketball training after school, so on those days I pack her a little extra something:
- Healtheries Potato Stix. Soph loves to munch on these crunch potato and rice snacks before training and I love that they’re easy to fit into her lunch box!
- A piece of fruit. This week it’s watermelon.
And that’s what lunch boxes are filled with at our place! What sort of things do you put in your children’s lunch boxes? Feel free to share your lunch box ideas with me as I’m always looking for new ideas!
Please note: This is my first entry in the Kidspot Voices of 2014 Healtheries #snackosphere Project. I was sent a box of Healtheries products and chose to participate in the #snackosphere project because it’s a product I’ve been buying and putting in the Sophie and Bailey’s lunch boxes since they started school!
