Today I’d like you to meet my Dad. His name’s Errol and up until a couple of weeks ago he didn’t really know anything about this blog.
His story about discovering this blog is similar to my Mums, which you can read right here, and after trying spending a solid 65 minutes trying to explain how blogging, Instagram, Facebook and Twitter works together to form one big social media platform that never really stops I realised that a) there is definitely coin to be made in running social media workshops for Grandparents and b) it was easier just to whack a photo up on Instagram and show Dad how it all works. So that’s what I did!
I got Scott to take approximately 37 photos of Dad and I, because that’s how many it takes until you get a good one that’s Instagram worthy, ran it through a black and white filter (normally I’d go with Valencia but there was some sort of weird shadow happening across Dad’s face which was causing huge filtering issues) and put it up on Instagram with a caption that read ‘Not the best photo with a huge shadow across his face, but say hello to my Dad, Errol. He’s got no idea how Instagram works so I told him people would like this photo and he’s still trying to work out what that means!” #fizzyfriday #hawaiiwithkirstenandco
24 comments and 94 likes later, Dad was most impressed (and slightly puzzled) that total randoms on the internet were saying hello to him!
Anyway, a couple of days later Dad asked me a bit of a weird question about toothpaste. The convo went a little something like this:
“Kirst, tell me, does it annoy you when the tube of toothpaste you’re using gets all wrinkly and doesn’t sit smoothly like it does when you first buy it?”
“YES! OMG, that drives me nuts!”
“I thought it might. I’ve also been thinking about your blog.”
“Um, ok….”
“Do you think it might drive some of your readers nuts too?”
“Um, maybe? Although I can’t say I’ve ever really asked them that sort of thing before.”
“Well it drives your Mum nuts too and yesterday I came up with a brilliant solution and I thought the readers of your blog might like to know about it. Hang on, I’ll go and get it.”
And with that, Dad disappeared into the bathroom and emerged a few seconds later, holding this:
Now we need to discuss a couple of things about this photo.
Firstly, thanks Dad. That’s a great idea and one I’m sure the readers will adopt ASAP.
Secondly, I asked Dad where he got the bull dog clip from (because we were on holiday in Hawaii at the time) to which he answered, “Oh I always travel with a variety of paper clips. You never know when they might come in handy.” Excellent travel tip!
And finally, I forgot to take a photo when Dad originally showed me his toothpaste life hack so I asked him if he could please email me through a photo of it, which is the photo featured above. Now I don’t know if Dad has deliberately set that up on a red background but just quietly, I think he might have a bit of a talent for flat lays!
What do we think of Errol’s toothpaste life hack? Is it one you will be embracing? And would you like to say hello to Errol in the comments section? I’m sure that will make his day!
