Look I don’t really know what’s happened to me since we moved into our new house, but I’ve gone all Tonia Todman/Martha Stewart and have sort of become a bit of a DIY freak.
Well ok, not really a freak, because let’s face it, adding a few stickers to a pineapple lamp shade and throwing a few household items onto an old tea trolley doesn’t exactly make you the Queen of all things DIY, but it’s the most DIY I’ve done in years so I’m basically one hot glue gun away from opening an account at Bunnings and enrolling in an online decoupage course!
Last week’s DIY project. Click here for all the details.
So today I thought I’d show you my latest project, which has happily combined my two great loves: booze and pretty things. Yes, it’s my DIY Bar Cart Project.
I’ve wanted a bar cart ever since I saw one pop up on my Instagram feed, but then I saw how much they were (around the thousand dollar mark….I KNOW….just imagine how many shoes/cocktails/groceries you could buy with that ridiculous amount of money) so I went on a bit of a hunt to find one myself.
I searched online but found nothing on Ebay or Gumtree. Well actually, that’s not true. I found a few gorgeous ones there but they were either a) too expensive or b) on the other side of the world. I looked in a few local second hand shops and was beginning to think a DIY Bar Cart project was not in my crafty future but then I spotted this little beauty at my local antique centre and $138 later she was all mine!
When I first bought it I had planned on stripping it back, painting it white, adding a handle at the end of it and a wine rack under the top shelf, but then I realised how much work was involved in all of that kind of fell in love with how gorgeous this old tea trolley from the 1950’s looked as it was and decided to keep it in it’s original vintage condition.
I filled her will a few goodies I had in my cupboards, picked up a few other essential items (hello $15 gold pineapple from Target and $2 green paper straws from Kmart!), finally got around to getting a painting Bailey did almost 6 years ago framed and my DIY Bar Cart project was complete!
