Sophie’s celebrating her birthday on the weekend. It’s not her actual birthday until the end of December, but we always have a party with her school friends in November so she is able to experience the whole excitement of having a birthday during the school term thing.
In the past I’ve gone in hard with the OTT birthday parties because planning and styling parties is something I love to do.

But this year I’ve been so under the weather with this IIH and Epiploic Appendigitis double whammy that I’ve been battling, that I just haven’t had the energy to even think about putting a party together.
However the world doesn’t stop when you’re a mum, so on Saturday there are 9 girls rocking up to our place for a sleepover.
Sophie has grown out of the whole themed birthday party idea and asked if we could have lots of colour everywhere instead. That I can do!
Today I thought I’d share with you an inexpensive party favour idea I came up with while wandering through the aisles of Kmart, trying to think of things that 11 year old girls would like that was colourful, fun and easy on the budget.
Because I seem to be on a vlogging roll at the moment (click here if you’d like to watch my first, and possibly last, crack at beauty vlogging) I’ve whipped this up for you:
How easy is that?! The rest of the party is going to be really easy to throw together as well (not a colour coordinated lolly bar in sight!) and I’ll have all the details on the blog next week, so stay tuned for that.
Honestly, I don’t know why I didn’t think of throwing a simple birthday party like this one years ago!
If you ignore the fact that my hair is looking positively ginger in the photo and I’ve got a shocking case of double chin action going on the video, I think I’m looking quite relaxed for a Mum who has struggled to get off the couch this week and is now surrounded by a sea of party supplies. Although that relaxed look could also be due to the large quantities of panadeine forte I’m currently swallowing. Whatever it is, let’s hope it lasts until 10am Sunday, when the sleepover party comes to an end!
How do birthday parties roll at your place? Are they OTT or a bit more laid back?
