This post is brought to you by Moose Enterprises.
When I first told Sophie that I’d been sent some Shopkins toys and would she like to help me review them, she was beside herself with excitement:
“Mummy, I’ve seen those on TV and they look sooooo cool! I’ve really wanted to start collecting them! Yes, I would love to help you with that! Does it mean I get to play with them?”
“Yep, it sure does. And you have to tell me what you think of them? How does that sound?
“That sounds so awesome! When will they be here? Can I help you unpack them? Am I allowed to keep them?”
“Um, they should be here in a day or so. Yes, you can help me unpack them and yes, you can definitely keep them.”
Cue a lot of jumping up and down, a little bit of squealing and one huge hug!
Finally, on the weekend, Sophie and I sat down and opened the box of Shopkins kindly sent to me from the people at Moose Enterprises. The team at Moose are responsible for all sorts of children’s toys, all of which are designed right here in Australia.
Sophie spent ages carefully setting up her new Shopkins toys and played with them for hours on Sunday.
Honestly, all I could hear for most of Sunday afternoon was things like, “I think I’ll need some milk, some juice and maybe some sort of treat” and “Come on, let’s go shopping. You can push the trolley.”
It was really lovely to watch Sophie playing, using her imagination and entertaining herself with something other than a screen!
From my point of view (i.e.: A mum who used to be an early childhood teacher), I love that the Shopkins range are so bright & colourful.
The small sizes of the pieces are great for fine motor development (all that pinching of fingers together to pick up small things is great for finger strength, which, believe it or not, is vital for a good pencil grip!) and they definitely encourage open-ended play, something an app or a tv show can’t always do!
Sophie would like you all to know that she thinks the Shopkins toys are
“really cool”
“heaps of fun”
“not babyish and definitely not boring!”
Shopkins are available from Big W, Target, Myer and Toys R Us.
Do your children like to play with toys? And do they squeal with excitement when they receive new ones?!
