On the weekend Scott and I attended an awards night with a dress code of Black Tie.
Now usually Black Tie means a floor length, ball gown style dress but given that it was an awards night, I knew there would be a fair bit of time sitting at the table, so I broke the rules a bit and went for a cocktail length dress from City Chic.
While I would’ve loved to have purchased a ball gown dress, I figured that a) nobody would really noticed the shorter length as we would be sitting down for most of the night and b) this cocktail style dress is definitely one I would wear again.
As soon as I slipped it on, I felt really comfortable (always a bonus!)
The gorgeous lightweight sleeves covered my tuckshop lady arms nicely, while the empire waistline showed of my waist, which, apart from my feet, is the smallest part of my body!
Despite the shorter length, the sequin details on the shoulders and waist ensured the dress met the black tie requirements and once styled with a swept back ponytail and a pair of blingy earrings, I was good to go!
Are you ready to go shopping with Kirsten and co? Let’s do it!
City Chic Black Wrap Dress $99.95 I’m wearing a size Small.
Please note: I purchased this dress in store a week ago but I’m unable to find the exact style online, so the link will take you to the same style, minus the sequins. It’s also available in blue and red.
Hair: Professionally blow dried at The Blow Dry Bar $50.
Once I was home, I decided to pull it back into a ponytail for a sleeker look. To do this I simply sprinkled volumising powder through the top (details of that product can be found in last week’s How To Style Curly Hair post), ran a brush through it and very gently pulled my hair back into a pony tail. I then used a regular hair tie to hold the pony tail in place and finished by spraying my entire head with enough hairspray to possibly damage the ozone layer!
Accessories: Silver earrings purchased 5 years ago and still going strong. Nude heels and a simple black clutch (not in shot) also purchased a few years ago.
Have you been to a fancy function recently? What did you wear?
