If you’ve been reading here for a while, you’ll probably know that I’m not really a fan of clutter.
I like to organise things (and people!) on a regular basis and belt out blog posts that show you how to do those things too. How To Declutter Your Wardrobe Like A Boss or How To Organise Your Pantry are just a couple of examples.
It’s the same when it comes to how I dress. I like to keep things simple and I’m drawn towards clothes that are classic with a bit of a twist.
Most days, my Mum Uniform consists of jeans, a t-shirt and a pair of flats but every now and again we’ll head out somewhere that requires a bit more of an effort.
Friday night was one of those occasions and this is what I wore:
Both the top and the pants are from Country Road, which I purchased during their recent Spend and Save promotion.
Let’s take a moment to discuss shape and sizing. Despite being on quite the weight loss journey and having lost 10 kilos so far (you can catch up on all of that in this post: A Weight Loss Update For You) I’ve still got that hour glass shape going on.
That’s obviously not going to change anytime soon and honestly, it is a really difficult body shape to shop for. This season, the boxy t-shirt and it’s mate the shift dress seem to be dominating the hangers in just about every store I’ve been into. Those styles do nothing for those of us who have a small waist and are a fair bit bigger everywhere else.
Fitted clothes are generally the way to go, but there’s a fine line between feeling good in something fitted and feeling like you’ve squeezed yourself into some sort of sausage casing that might just explode if you breathe out too quickly!
So when I found this tie-front top that wasn’t too tight, had a flattering silhouette and nipped in nicely at the waist I knew I’d hit the jackpot. I’m currently a size 14 in a top and I find Country Road’s sizing to be a bit on the small side for chunky curvy chicks like myself, so I tried on both the XL and the L. The L did fit but it was quite snug and after chatting to the sales assistant about both, I decided to go with the XL as that’s what I felt more comfortable in.
In hindsight, I probably should’ve purchased the L as the top does have a bit of stretch to it and after wearing it all night, the XL was quite loose on me. Find it here: Tie-Front Top $129
The pants are really comfortable and feature exposed ankle zips on each ankle, a flat-front waistband and a gathered, elastic waistband at the back. They’re available in Black or Navy. I’m wearing a black pair, size 14. Find them here: Ankle Zip Jogger $129
The shoes are Louboutins that Guns gave me for Christmas last year. I KNOW. He is a ridiculously OTT gift giver. And they are the most ridiculously high heels I own. Honestly, I can hardly even walk in them, but they are hot pair of shoes and finish the outfit of nicely.
The hot pink clutch adds a fun pop of colour and is an oldie I found in the dark depths of my handbag drawer.
Do you struggle to find clothes that fit and flatter you too? Maybe you’ve bought something new? Feel free to share the details!
