Style It! Empress Eleven Black Betty Top

Welcome to Style It! A new regular feature here on Kirsten and co, where I take an item of clothing I’ve found online and show you how to style it.

Let’s kick things off with one of my favourite plus size fashion labels, Empress Eleven.

Offering affordable, on trend clothing in sizes 14-24, today we’re going to glam things up with the Empress Eleven Black Betty Top.

Ok, before we go any further we need to discuss the gorgeous details of this top. I’m wearing a Small and while it does look reasonably fitted in the photo, the Black Betty Top is actually a loose fit through the middle and hip area. Lengthwise, it offers good non-clingy hip and butt coverage (I’m 163cm tall) and features an asymmetrical dip in the hemline on both the front and back.

This is a great cut for those who don’t have much of a waist (if you’re straight up and down or carry a bit of extra love around your tummy, this is the top for you!) If you have a smaller waist like I do (you’re more of an hourglass or pear shape) and prefer a cut that gives you a more defined shape, you might find this top is a bit too floaty for you.

However, the removable shoulder pad action and chic black wet look sequin situation on the shoulders help to balance out the loose, floaty middle and hip area nicely.

The print is grey, black and soft cream snow leopard and the modal jersey knit is the softest fabric I’ve ever worn. Seriously, it would have to be the most comfortable and cosy item of clothing hanging in my wardrobe!

How To Style It

Because the Black Betty Top is quite loose-fitting through the bottom, it looks best paired with something fitted.

Think leggings, jeggings, skinny jeans, a pencil skirt, fitted maxi or bodycon dress underneath worn with stockings and ankle boots.

If colour is your thing, throw on a pair of coloured heels/flats (red would look fab) or earrings or grab your favourite coloured handbag/clutch and you’re good to go!

Wearing your hair up will show off the sequin shoulder action nicely. Mine is in a side braid in the photo above (thanks to my daughter, Sophie and her five-minute side braiding skills) but a simple pony tail would work just as well.
