So earlier this week I posted this photo on Instagram with the caption, “If Westfield Carindale ever need a shopping/tour guide, I’m fairly sure I’m their girl” and the responses from my Instagram followers made me laugh so hard, especially this one from the lovely Beth who wrote, “She could even do it blindfolded ninja style” and it really made me think that
a) social media is amazing. I mean most of those people who commented are complete strangers, yet they all know me so well. And I reckon if we all met up one day/night for a few sneaky wines, we’d get along famously and laugh so hard at each other’s jokes that we might just cry.
And b) everyone should have a crack at a hardcore Shopping Marathon, because it really is good for your health. So here we go with this week’s Friday Five. Enjoy…
1 // Mine too. Seriously. I even wear my Fit Bit when I hit the shops. And most shopping days I rack up 10,000 steps while whipping out the credit card and filling the boot of my car with shopping bags. Which, just quietly, sure beats slogging it out at the gym for an hour on the treadmill.
2 // Not only will your cardio fitness improve by shopping, but your arms will see dramatic toning improvement after lugging around so many shopping bags. Now some might say that arm toning via shopping isn’t quite as peaceful as arm toning via yoga but I find a boot full of shopping bags strangely soothing, and I don’t know about you but I reckon that’s a much easier way to feel soothed than downward dogging it on a mat for an hour and a half.
3 // You need to stop for coffee breaks every couple of hours because shopping requires energy and sustenance. This of course means you’re getting more than your fair share of calcium for the day, which in turn means you won’t be suffering from osteo arthritis anytime soon. Huzzah. Healthy bones FTW!
4 // You can sign up for all sorts of reward cards and if your spend more than your fair share at those shops, some of them will send you gift vouchers. You know, to spend at your leisure. And of course, when you receive a gift voucher from your favourite department store to says ‘thanks for dropping so much coin at our registers’ well, you’re actually saving money. I KNOW. IT’S TOTALLY WIN WIN. Even though you have to spend a small fortune to get 20 bucks in vouchers, but meh. Minor detail that we can all overlook.
5 // Shopping is great for your social life. Just look how much fun those girls in that pic up there are having. Even the poor love in the middle who only has two shopping bags on her arm looks like she’s having a ball. So yeah, you can meet your friends at the mall. You can run into (or avoid. ha!) old friends at the mall. And if all else fails, you can even become friends with the lovely staff who work at several of the shops at the mall who will lovingly ask how your kids are, comment on your recent weight loss and ask how the top/pants/shoes your purchased last week are going. Which will make you feel like the mall really is your home away from home and that you’ve totally found your people. Or so I’ve heard ๐
Do you love to shop? Is Westfield Carindale your second home too?!
