I don’t know about you, but I am over this whole Elf On The Shelf thing.
I mean I gave it a red hot crack last year. There were letters from the Elf, elaborate set ups every night that involved intense research on Pinterest, I even set a nightly alarm on my phone to remind me to race downstairs and seeing into Elf on the Shelf action!
Yep, when it came to playing the EOTS game last year, I was ALL OVER IT. Like a fat kid on cake. Or a creepy eyed Elf On The Shelf.
This year however, is a completely different story.
I can’t be bothered moving Pixie into various locations around the house every night and so I give you the lazy mum’s guide to Elf On The Shelf. Naturally there are only 5 ideas, because LAZY.
They’re also in the wrong order, because LAZY. But they’re both minor details and hopefully the following five ideas will inspire you to be lazy too a good mum and get that Elf On The Shelf into some fun antics in the days ahead!
The Lazy Mum’s Guide To Elf On The Shelf.
Idea Number One: Busted!
This one’s so easy. Simply fill up a jar with lollies/candy (I’ve used candy canes), plonk your elf beside the jar, put on hand in the jar and BAM! your elf is totally busted trying to steal a lolly.
Idea Number Two: A Trip To The Day Spa
This one looks a bit elaborate to set up, but really it’s not.
Simply grab a tea towel, fold it in half, wrap it around your elf and you’ve got yourself a robe. I used a pom-pom left over from Sophie’s birthday party (party details are here: A Lazy Mum’s Guide to Birthday Parties Anyone sensing a theme going on?!) for a pillow. Travel sized products from Trilogy* completed the day spa experience.
Idea Number 3: Hide and Seek
Want to keep your kids entertained for a while when they wake up? Shove your elf in a drawer and tell the kids the elf is hiding in the house somewhere!
It’ll take them a while to find that pesky Elf but it will take you all of 2.5 seconds to organise. GENIUS.
Idea Number 4: The Drop and Roll
Now just quietly, this one is a bit satisfying.
Shove your elf in a toilet roll, drop it at the top of the stairs and watch it roll.
The kids will love waking up to it the next morning and you might enjoy watching that creepy eyed elf casually make its way down your stairs in an unprotected roll of toilet paper!
Idea Number 5: The Vase
Again, this one is super easy and takes lazy to a whole new level. Simply find your favourite vase and shove your elf head first into it. Please note that the creepy eyes are a bit like the Mona Lisa. They’re always watching you.
Does Elf On The Shelf happen at your place or are you a sensible mum who prefers to drink wine at night instead?!
