Lately a few things have arrived at my front door that I’ve loved so much I’ve shared them on Instagram. (FYI: You’ll know when these items have been sent to me because the hashtag #gifted will always appear after the comment I write about the product or brand.)
But not everyone is on Instagram, so I thought I’d share them here every once in a while too. And what better way to do that than in another edition of What’s Going Down In Retail Town!
Three Things From Instagram
Let’s kick things off with one of my favourite things – candles. They’re a reasonably inexpensive way of making your home look and smell lovely, although some candles can be crazy expensive (what it WITH that?!) and choosing a scent is a very personal thing, don’t you think?
Now I’m not normally a high maintenance kind of girl, but when it comes to candles I’m a little bit fussy. I don’t like my candles to smell like food (chocolate is for eating, not smelling thanks very much) and vanilla gives me a headache. My preference is anything with essential oils. Think lavender, lemongrass, orange etc. Told you I was fussy!
So when a package from Salt&Pepper arrived on my doorstep with a BLANC candle and NOIR diffuser from their SERENITE* collection, I was a bit nervous.
But there was no need to worry because as luck would have it, both are made up of essential oils and smell delightful! And I have to admit to having a VERY proud mum moment when Bailey saw the diffuser, commented that it looked “sick as” (whatever that means) and asked if he could have it for his room.
I am not kidding when I tell you that thanks to the fragrance wafting out of those diffuser sticks, we now have a teenage boy’s bedroom that smells nothing like a locker room anymore!
Clever Readers
About a month ago a lovely reader named Andrea got in touch with me and asked if I’d like to meet her for a coffee. She came bearing the most beautiful of gifts – a Shibori cushion and tea towel – both of which she had hand dyed herself.
I was blown away by the incredible quality of Andrea’s work and kept telling her she should start selling her pieces. And guess what? She has!

Yes, let’s! Because last week I was sent a couple of Smoothtec Band Wire Free bras* (yes, you read that correctly – they’re wire free!) from Playtex that has completely changed my bra wearing ways.
I don’t know how Playtex have done it, but they have managed to come up with a bra design that is ridiculously comfortable, surprisingly supportive and available in a range of gorgeous fabrics (hello soft leopard print!)
The Playtex Comfort Revolution Smoothtec Wirefree bra retails for $49.95 and you can try one on at Myer, David Jones, Harris Scarfe or order online at Playtex.com.au
