Welcome to this week’s edition of What I Wore, where I’m sharing my #everydaystyle photos and giving a little explanation as to why I join in with the hashtag over on Instagram.
It’s been a busy week and I’m still not happy about the fact that Christmas is only 6 short weeks away. There seems to be so much to do and so little time to actually do it in, or is that just me?
Sunday
It was working day at home where the rain played havoc with my hair (hello frizz factor!) and the Cooking With Kirsten filming conditions.
I spent the day clearing my emails, writing blog posts and filling orders from The Shop.
Comfy stripes were called for and this Hi-Low T-Shirt Dress from Target ($29, I’m wearing a size 14) delivered the goods. Teamed it with a cheap pair of sneakers I picked up a couple of years ago for 15 bucks at Target USA and I was good to go.
Monday
Groceries, errands and a sneaky side trip to Pottery Barn and West Elm to buy Christmas presents for the nieces and nephews* took up most of Monday.
*Don’t panic, they’re not getting outdoor furniture or cutlery sets! I got them a few cute things from the kids section of Pottery Barn, which I won’t reveal here because their parents read this blog from time to time and there’s nothing worse than spoiling a Christmas surprise.
Wore an old faithful shirt from Autograph (find similar here. I’m wearing a size 14) and Katies jeans.
I purchased the jeans a couple of months ago and unfortunately they’re no longer available, however these Slim Leg Roll Cuff Jeans* are on my wish list and would be the perfect Spring/Summer jean, don’t you think?
Tuesday
I headed into town for the Myer Giftorium launch, thanks to Kids Business.
It was a great opportunity to see what fabulous gifts are on offer in this year’s Myer Giftorium and to catch up with blogging friends. Say hi to Melissa from Suger Coat It and Lauren (and her gorgeous daughter, Sophia) from Sand Castles & Paper Crowns.
Let’s hope the Food Nazi NEVER discovers this blog or any of its social media accounts, or I am in all sorts of trouble!
Yes, that is a personalised jar of Nutella which is almost as big as my head. Everyone in attendance received one and if the grin on my face is anything to go by, I think it’s safe to say, I was quite happy with that thoughtful gift.
I wore Katies Fashion striped cold shoulder top*, size M, $29.95 & those Katies Fashion jeans that are no longer available.
Wednesday
It was a day at home for Sophie and I. She was sick with a sore throat and temperature. I was out with that stupid lgskdhflaksjdf flaring up again and I was kept busy at the computer with blog posts to write and shop orders to fill.
It was a PJ day for Soph and a soft pant day for me. I think you’ll probably agree when I say it’s best for all concerned if we don’t have any photographic evidence of that look floating around on the internet!
Thursday
I spent the morning at the Endocrinologist’s office, having my monthly checkup and chat about all things endo related. I’m surprised at how interesting I find all of the information he gives me about how the body functions and his scales weigh a whole kilo less than mine do at home, so that is a MASSIVE bonus.
Obviously I wore the lightest thing I could find in my wardrobe, you know, to get the best possible result when it was time to stand on those hideous scales and I’m pleased to report I’m another 2 kilos down this month. Hooray!
Wore an old lightweight tencel denim shirt dress purchased from Jacqui E a couple of years ago.
Friday
I may have indulged in a little bit of retail therapy on Friday. You see I’m off to an event in a couple of weeks to celebrate 2 years of #everydaystyle with Nikki from Styling You. The dress code is Daytime Summer Glamour and being a bit of a jeans and a t-shirt girl, I don’t really have anything in my wardrobe that fits the brief.
But you know me, I’m never one to let a good shopping opportunity pass me by! So off I went and as luck would have it, I managed to find the perfect outfit at the very first stop. Hooray!
#everydaystyle is a great source of wardrobe inspiration on Instagram. If you do a quick search, you’ll find thousands of everyday women joining in with Nikki’s #everydaystyle wearing their everyday clothes.
In a world where everything is so fast paced and instant, it’s pretty amazing that a hashtag has been created and is still being used by so many people around the world every single day, two years later. Go Nikki!
I joined in every now and again last year and this year my health issues knocked me for six, which has meant a lot of my time has been spent on the couch. For someone like myself who loves all things fashion and beauty, not having the energy or even the desire to get up and put on a nice outfit everyday has been tough.
For a while there I was worried I would never be able to get off that damn couch but finally progress is being made and I’m on my way to getting my IIH symptoms under control.
So, about two months ago, when I started feeling better, I decided to join in with Nikki’s #everydaystyle as often as I could. I’m usually much more comfortable behind the camera than in front of it, but now more than ever, I realise that life is too short to give two hoots what anyone else thinks, so I just stand in front that camera and get my pose on!
I join in most days now and it’s a quick 5-10 minutes that encourages me to think about what I’m wearing, smile more (nobody wants to see a grumpy face staring back at them!) and share my style with others. Also the camera never lies, so it’s also a REALLY great way to quickly figure out what outfits suit you and what outfits need to exit the building ASAP!
The only thing I haven’t worked out is how to get a full length photo happening using a tripod. All of my attempts have me looking like I’m standing 4,3872 kilometres away from the camera (approximately) If you’ve got any tips on how to nail the full length photo thing, I’d love to hear them!
Here’s Friday’s #everydaystyle:
Wore Sportscraft Brenda Tencel Shirt, Size 14 (currently 20% off) and a pair of old jeans I bought a couple of years ago from The Gap.
Handbag was a purchase from the Kate Spade outlet store when we were in Hawaii earlier this year.
Saturday
I spent the morning writing blog posts while the afternoon was spent doing glamourous things like vacuuming the floors and catching up on all of the laundry #goodtimes
I wore Katies Canvas Pocket Detail Short* in black, size 14 and a Suzanne Grae Stripe Bardot T, size L
