Seriously. What is it with ugly waiting rooms?
Recently I’ve had my fair share of time spent in waiting rooms and I can honestly say that each one has been more unattractive than the one before it!
Now if you’ve been reading here for a while, you’ve probably come to realise that I try to see the funny side to most of life’s tense/stressful/unattractive situations. So you can imagine what was going through my head when I sat down to wait for a blood test yesterday and was greeted with this visual:
I mean, I couldn’t make this stuff up if I tried! And let’s not forget that little stereo system to the left, which was belting out some mighty fine tunes from 1978. Now if that’s not a waiting room party wanting to happen, I don’t know what is!
Or how about the delightfully calming colour of electric green at the reception area of the Neuro’s office, complete with borderline dead pot plant?
Let’s just take a moment to consider what patients are seeing him for.
Yep, there’s nothing like putting in a solid 45 minutes in a waiting room that could basically double as a glow stick, while you wait to find out if you have a brain tumour or not.
And don’t get me started on the car dealership waiting room I had to sit in a few weeks back while they put a new battery in my car. It came complete with chairs that I’m fairly sure the local GP’s office actually rejected and the most spectacular arrangement of oversized fake flowers I think I’ve ever seen.
I did take a photo of it and whacked it up on Instagram, but I was so traumatized by the ugly that I had to delete it. After all, this blog and it’s Facebook and Insta feeds are all about pretty things and witty words!
Speaking of Instagram, I did have quite the laugh to myself when I put this photo up and a follower suggested I print a coffee table book full of ugly waiting rooms.
I suggested it would need to be a self-published book (seriously, what publisher would even look at that concept, let alone actually print it!) and she came back with a working title of ‘Do Not Remove’ which naturally would need to be on a sticker.
And that is what I absolutely love about social media.
So many great people, who are complete strangers, making each other laugh and smile on a daily basis. Ugly waiting rooms aside, it’s not all bad out there is it?!
