One of the most popular questions I’m asked on Instagram or during a Facebook Live chat is, “What lipstick are you wearing?”
So here’s the thing. I’ve always been a dedicated lip gloss girl. Partly because I’m drawn towards shiny things but mainly because lipstick and I don’t have a very good track record.
I excel at getting it on my teeth pretty much every time I wear it and don’t get me started on how many times I’ve successfully snapped a lipstick off at the base while applying it.
Lip Gloss Brands I Love
Clinque, Nars and Revlon were, and still are, my lip gloss brands of choice. Chanel is my ridiculous indulgence purchase that I make once a year and feel guilty for approximately 3.5 days afterwards (hello $52 for a lip gloss. It is insane to meet you!)
All of those lip glosses pass the very important ‘will my hair stick to my lips on a windy day’ test – meaning, when it’s windy outside, your hair will not stick to your lip gloss smeared lips should a gust of wind catch you out #important
However, earlier this year while I was browsing the Revlon aisle of my local chemist, I stumbled upon these little beauties and I haven’t looked back.
Revlon Colorburst
They’re called Revlon Colorburst (yes, it’s the American spelling of color. Apologies for the missing U)
More of a crayon than a lipstick, you wind them up from the base so you can’t snap or break them (hooray!) They don’t need sharpening (genius!) and they give the best long-lasting lip coverage that has people asking, “What lipstick are you wearing?!”
The only downside is that pesky lid does come off quite easily, so if you fling the thing in your handbag make sure the lid is on properly. Otherwise you might end up with colorburst all over the inside of your bag – or so I’ve heard.
They retail for around the $16 mark but of you keep an eye out the big chemists have them on sale for up to 50% off quite regularly.
The colours are quite bold and unlike a lip gloss have a long lasting matte finish.
The colours I have, from top to bottom as featured in the image above, are:
- 210 (a bold blend of red and pink)
- 040 (my fave – a gorgeous orange)
- 220 (a fabulous shade of hot pink)
- 255 (a great neutral)
