I know I trot this line out on a very regular basis, but I think we can all agree that shopping IS my cardio.
I mean, I’m not exactly sporty but I do know how to get in and out of a change room in record speed!
Here are my tips to make your next shopping day a whole lot easier and much more comfortable.
What to wear for a day of shopping
If you’re going to commit a whole day to shopping, simple, no fuss comfort is definitely key.
Those gorgeous wedge heels you’ve been desperate to wear? They’ll have to wait for another day.
That beautiful long tassel necklace that finishes off your outfit perfectly? You won’t want to origami yourself out of that in various change rooms throughout your local Westfield.
Keep your outfit simple and you’ll be in and out of each change room in no time.
Here’s what I wore on my last day of shopping.
A loose-fitting top
If you’re shopping for clothes, you’ll need to try them on. That means taking off the clothes you’re wearing, possibly numerous times.
Avoid anything with buttons, zips or tie up bits.
Instead opt for a top or tee that you can pull over your head and throw on a chair or hang on a hook without worrying about it creasing.
Comfortable pants
For me that means denim with stretch.
For you it might mean a pair of slouch or soft pants.
Tight fitting skinny jeans will slow down your cardio efforts. I highly recommend not wearing them on a shopping day out.
Slip on shoes
Ok, so technically I’m not wearing slip on shoes in this photo.
I’m wearing super comfy sneakers with laces. That’s because I was shopping with and for my daughter.
If I was shopping for myself, I would wear a slip on sneaker, boot or sandal that can easily be removed and put back on again.
Cross body bag
This is a shopping game changer.
Throw your wallet, keys, lippie and phone in a cross body bag and huzzah! You’re hands free for the entire day.
You can browse the racks, pick shoes up, check out the latest lipgloss shades all without worrying about where your handbag is!
Other things to remember
Underwear. If you’re shopping for a particular outfit, bring the underwear you’ll be wearing with you and try it on under the possible winning outfit.
Looking for a strapless dress? Bring the strapless bra you’ll be wearing under it to help you decide if it’s the right dress for you.
Or maybe you’re looking for something fitted? If suck-you-in shape wear is your thing, bring it with you. That way you can make sure the dress is a fit you love.
Hydration. Keeping your fluids up while shopping is important. I carry a water bottle with me and take regular coffee breaks throughout the day. Also, cake calories don’t count when you’re at the mall.
Fit Bit. If you have a fit bit, don’t forget to wear it. You’ll be amazed at how many steps you can rack up while briskly walking through the shops for a few hours.
Jewellery. I keep jewellery to a minimum while I’m shopping. Earrings and a watch are usually enough. Bracelets, necklaces and dangly earrings have a habit of getting caught on clothes and/or slowing down the change room process.
