This morning I received a fairly urgent message from my friend Nicole. It went a little something exactly like this:
I have a question that may work as a blog post for you. I love the new FRANKiE4 brogues (Alex) but I don’t know what to wear them with?
Yes, that question will definitely work as a blog post for me. It could also work as a reason to justify a sneaky shoe purchase for you.
So let’s take a look at the brogue shoe and what to wear with them.
Shop the Shoe:
1. FRANKiE4 ALEX available in champagne (pictured) and black $244.95
2. ROLLIE slingback punch flat in blush stone, $149.95
3. Country Road Bailey flat brogue available in silver (pictured) and tan, $189
4. Wittner holland brogue, available in cosmetic pink (pictured), silver and black, $189.95
5. Cotton On austin true brogue, available in rose gold metallic (pictured), patent black and patent nude, $39.95
Style the Shoe: what to wear with brogues
Ok, so if you’ve found a pair of brogues you love but you’re not sure how to wear them, here are my tips.
1. Casual Chic
Think of the brogue as an alternative to a ballet flat or a sneaker and you’ll nail the Autumn-Winter casual chic look –
- boyfriend jeans with a tee and blazer
- a t-shirt dress with a long scarf and a denim jacket
- skinny jeans/pants with a shirt and jumper. Add a pair of brogues and you’re good to go!
2. Polished Professional
Brogues are a classic shoe and can definitely work with a more corporate or classic look.
- fitted pants with a soft shirt or blouse
- pencil skirt, shirt and jacket combo
- wide leg pants with a fitted top. Add a pair of brogues for a polished professional look.
3. Colour Fun
Back in the day (we’re talking the early 90’s) when I first wore brogues, tan was the only option.
Also, wearing them with socks and calf length floral frocks was totally a thing – just ask/google Elaine from Seinfeld. Not shoe related, but she also has spectacular dance moves that are well worth checking out.
But back to the brogues.
This season we are spoilt for choice when it comes to shoe colour. Metallic coloured brogues are everywhere.
Don’t be afraid to embrace the colour fun!
Metallics are the new neutral and really do go with everything.
Are there, or will there be, a pair of brogues in your life this Autumn-Winter?
