So I’d just like to take a moment to introduce you all to my mum. That’s her in the picture above, reading my blog a couple of weeks ago for the first time. I KNOW. I mean, if you can’t rely on your immediate family to click on your blog everyday and help increase your stats who can you rely on?!
Like everything around here, there’s a story to go with that image above, so grab yourself a cuppa and settle in because here we go with a little anecdote I like to call, What’s A Blog?….
Mum was over at our place a few days before Christmas and she was admiring the cute little Christmas trees I had on our dining room table. You know the ones I’m talking about…
I’d purchased them, along with several other Christmas goodies, during my first official outing to DFO Jindalee as a DFO Blogger .
So when mum commented on how cute the mini Christmas trees were, I excitedly launched into a spiel about how much I enjoy blogging and that I’m still surprised so many people actually read what I write and that sometimes they even think it’s funny and how they take time out of their busy lives to comment on blog posts I’ve written and that really, I should’ve started blogging years ago because I always thought I’d be a teacher for the rest of my life but now I’m starting to think I might be half ok at this writing thing and can you believe I’ve been given this amazing opportunity to shop at not one but two DFO’s and blog about it?
To which my mum thoughtfully replied, “What’s a blog?”
Um. Ok then.
This was then followed up with numerous other questions including, but not limited to,
“How do I even find a blog? Is it part of that FaceTweet thing?” (not.even.kidding.)
“What do you mean you write on the internet? Is that even safe? Aren’t there all sorts of weirdos reading it? I hope you don’t put photos of yourself on there. God knows where they could end up.”
“Who are these people in the comments section? Do you know them? And how did they find you?”
and then there’s my personal favourite, asked after I had patiently answered ALL her questions and explained what a blog is….
“Oh, on the way over here I was listening to a lady whinge about something on talkback radio and she has a blog. Are you kind of like her?”
Yes Mum. I’m just like the whinging lady on talkback radio!
Everybody, meet my Mum. Her name’s Pam. And she’s just learnt what a blog is. Feel free to freak her right out by leaving her a comment below!
Do you have a blog? Does your Mum read it?
