On the weekend I flew across the ditch to my hometown of Christchurch, New Zealand.
It was a last minute decision to attend a workshop with my cousin that was part clothing stylist part life motivation. I learnt a lot during that day and I’ll share more about it with you in future blog posts.
Despite the fact that I’ve lived in Brisbane, Australia since I was 15 years old whenever I’m on a plane that touches down at Christchurch airport I have that feeling of ‘I’m home.’
I have a feeling that old mate who was sitting beside me and pretty much chewed my ear off for the entire three-hour flight with his life story also felt the same way.
I don’t know his name but he was a FIFO Miner (Fly In Fly Out) working on a four and one rotation (four weeks working, one week off) He used to live on the Gold Coast but has moved back to Christchurch. He loves living back home eh. Crusaders are playing tonight. Should be a great game. Bit worried about the weather though eh. Not sure how they’ll go in the rain that’s forecast but the Waratahs aren’t a great team so we should beat them no problems bro. Don’t you hate it when you have to go to the loo on a plane? It’s so annoying eh.
And so it continued until I turned my lap top on and tried to think of something, anything to type. But then, get this. Just as we were landing he looks at his boarding pass and says, “Hey you won’t believe this but I’m sitting in the wrong seat! I should be sitting in 4B not 5B. Geez that brasses me off. If I was sitting there I’d be so squashed, cos look. There’s already two people in front of us. At least sitting here we’ve got an empty seat in between us. And we got to have a great chat the whole flight eh!”
Yep, we sure did.
What’s Your Story?
Anyway, that fairly one-sided conversation combined with my feeling of ‘I’m home’ got me thinking how everyone has a story. Now I don’t know about you but I find other people’s stories fascinating, especially the ones about where people were born and where they live now.
So how about we share our own? I’ll go first if you like:
I was born in Christchurch, New Zealand and lived there until I was 15 (except for one year when we lived in Auckland) then we moved to Brisbane, Australia in 1989 and I’ve lived here ever since.
Ok, now that you know my story, it’s over to you.
