So remember how I was at the Kidspot Voices of 2014 event a while ago because I’d somehow managed to crack the Top 30 Personal and Parenting category?
Little Wolff, Elements at Home, Kirsten and co., Always Josefa
Well, one of the bloggers I met there, Josefa from Always Josefa, has asked me to join in with a Why I Write Blog Hop. Which, to be honest, was lovely and surprising all rolled into one. Lovely because it’s always nice to be asked to participate in fun things and surprising because I’ve never really thought of myself as a writer before.
But given that I somehow manage to type several hundred words onto a screen each day, I s’pose that kind of does make me a bit of a writer. Which sounds dead set fancy. And probably means that I now need to hang out at coffee shops with my laptop a lot more than I do, so thank you Josefa! My coffee addiction is beside itself with excitement 😉
What am I working on?
I’m 3.5 modules away from finishing a 12 month Graphic Design course, so that’s a bit exciting. I’m also working on blogging everyday (although I do give myself the weekends off) and trying to teach myself how to use my camera on a setting other than auto, which is hurting my brain, but is definitely worth it in the long run.
I’m also working on a rather large bottle of Bombay Sapphire Gin, because I’m a bit late to the G&T party and everyone tells me I need to get on board with the Hendricks, but I’m also VERY tight when it comes to spending money on booze, so need to finish the Bombay Sapphire before any other gin related purchases can be made. So that’s a bit stressful and is putting me under what can only be described as A Lot Of Pressure.
How does my writing differ from other in it’s genre?
I’m not entirely sure the other Personal and Parenting bloggers out there suffer from Blogging ADD quite like I do. I tend to be VERY light on the parenting side of things (even though I’ve managed to raise two very charming, gifted and of course, talented children who have never thrown tantrums in public and/or said no to me,** I doubt anyone wants my parenting advice, because let’s face it, nobody likes a smart arse show pony) but I do share a fair bit of personal stuff.
I also like to share my recipes, any shopping bargains I may have found on one of my very regular trips to Westfield Carindale, details of birthday parties that I’ve thrown together and the occasional tv show recap. So, you know, I’m a bit all over the place but I guess my main goal is to make people laugh and hopefully come back for more.
** that entire section of the sentence may or may not be true
Why do I write?
Well I love to make people laugh and I have a bit of a reputation for being able to talk underwater with a mouthful of marbles, so I write to get the words out of my head. And let’s face it, Scott’s probably very grateful for that, because when I blog about something, it’s one less hour long, very one sided conversation he has to sit through.
Here’s Scott. Doing his best Pool Boy impression, while I sit under an umbrella and chew his ear off about something that no doubt would have been VERY important at the time.
How does my writing process work?
I’m what can only be described as a Hardcore Planner in pretty much every aspect of my life, although when it comes to blogging/writing, I use a combination of planning and flying by the seat of my pants. If something funny or random happens to me and I think everyone will get a laugh from reading about it, then I’ll probably belt out a blog post and hit publish straight away. But posts like The Friday Five require a bit of thought and forward planning, so they’re usually written a couple of days in advance and scheduled to be published first thing Friday morning.
Where the writing/blogging happens.
And now, for my next trick, I would like to pass this Why I Write Blog Hop onto the following lovely ladies…
Amanda from Cooker and a Looker
Amanda Smyth is the bird behind the Cooker and a Looker blog. The blog name is a bit of an inside joke really: at their wedding, her husband joked that his footy coach had told him: “You can either get a cooker or a looker; you can’t have both.” Five years and two daughters later, when the time came to choose a blog name, Cooker and a Looker seemed the perfect choice. When she’s not cooking, she’s earning badges from the Big Sister’s imaginary natureteer club, distracting the Little Sister from unpacking the good china draw and helping her husband, Bearhands, on their turf farm on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast. On the blog you’ll find great tucker and ordinary parenting, served with a side of farm life.
Emily from Have A Laugh On Me
I’m more than a cranky mum to three cheeky souls. I’m a word stylist, freelance writer, nosey journalist, and nagging wife who doesn’t worry about the ‘what ifs’. My blog is always honest, often humorous and never boring – come and have a laugh at my expense!
Sonia from Sonia Styling
My name is Sonia and I live in South Australia with my husband (Mr Styling) and our adorable fluffball puppy, Amalfi. I love fashion, writing, connecting on social media and if you pour me a glass of wine, I’ll love you forever. My blog – Sonia Styling – is a cocktail of fashion, life, beauty and homewares, all served with a dash of sass, a sprinkling of humour and a generous pour of honesty. Styling my life, one story at a time.
Thanks again Josefa, for inviting me to be a part of the Why I Write Blog Hop and thanks to Amanda, Emily and Sonia for happily accepting the blog hop baton.
