As many of you will know, last year was a rough one for me health wise.
If you’re new to the blog, you can catch on things in this post: And The Diagnosis Is…IIH and this one: Living With IIH
When not so great news was delivered or dark days decided to pay me a visit, Scott was always so good at telling me, “We’ll just write 2015 off. We’ll just get through it and once 2016 is here you’re going to feel so much better. The Sweary Neuro Bloke has given you a timeline, you’re doing all the right things, you’ve got this.”
And honestly, when I woke up on the last day of 2015 I was beside myself with excitement.
After a solid 9 months of feeling like absolute crap and not being able to do normal, everyday things like make lunches for my kids and finish sentences, I was FINALLY starting to feel better. Just as the specialists had predicted (turns out they do know what they’re talking about!) And I could not WAIT to slam the door shut on 2015.

You’ve Got This
And now that 2016 is well and truly here, it’s amazing what changes the combination of almost a year on a couch and a fresh start can bring to your life.
For example, up until a year ago I spent a fair chunk of my adult life worrying about what other people think of me. I think that’s probably fairly normal, but then again, maybe it’s not? Either way, now I don’t really give a shit.
As a result, I’m giving lots of new things a go. I mean, I never used to post photos of myself on Instagram because OMG what would people think?!
Now I’m joining in with Nikki from Styling You‘s #everydaystyle and take a photo of what I’m wearing most days.
Why? Because I adore fashion. Always have and always will. I also love sharing my shopping finds with others and what better way to do that than via Instagram? It’s also about being a part of a community of like minded, supportive women and who would say no to that?!
If any of that offends anyone, they can click unfollow and/or keep their unattractive thoughts to themselves! Life is too short to worry about what other people think. And besides, I’ve got this.
I’ve also begun playing along with Fat Mum Slim’s #photoaday challenge over on Instagram. I completed an entire year of this back in 2011 and I’m going to do the same again this year.
It’s a great way to get creative each day and improve your photo taking skills, which is something I really want to work on in 2016. Because, you guessed it, I’ve got this!
I’ve also re-vamped The Shop, giving the virtual shelves a makeover and re-stocking them with a fresh, new line of prints.
They’re only AU$20 including postage, which is an absolute BARGAIN plus you get a handwritten thank you note from me, which is worth absolutely nothing, so that’s, I dunno, something to throw in the bin once you’ve read it?
Anyway, you can check out the new stock by clicking this link right here: THE SHOP
And finally, the other thing I’m working on now that I’m the healthiest I’ve been in a very long time, is balance.
You see for the last two years I’ve been writing here 5-6 days a week and while it was a great distraction last year, this year I’m going to pull back a bit.
For now my plan is to blog 3-4 times a week. Definitely on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday and probably with another day thrown in there because I love to write and for some reason, random funny things seem to happen to me on an almost daily basis and most of those stories are too good not to share!
Don’t get me wrong, I love blogging and want this blog to continue to grow. But this year I also want to spend less time in front of a computer screen and more time in front of actual people.
It’s all about balance and if I can beat two dodgy optic nerves and a fair bit of excess spinal fluid that insisted on settling in my head for most of last year, I’m fairly sure I can figure out the whole work-life balance thing too! Yep, I’ve totally got this.
How is 2016 shaping up for you? Are you making changes and kicking goals? Want to share them with me?
